The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I just received these today, and they are exactly what I was expecting. While the leather is a little stiff, it isn't too bad, and I would actually prefer it that way, personally. As you break them in they will be like a pair of raw denim and conform to your leg rather than being a soft leather from the manufacturer. The smell of leather as I opened the box was pretty overpowering. I purchased the black, and they are a very nice black boot with just enough distressing to add some interest. The bottom of the boot looks like it will have enough traction to be stable enough through a slick & Icy Wisconsin winter, which is a must. Which is another reason I chose this boot over the Carmen 14L. They both have similar looks, but the Carmen is Suede, and suede won't hold up well with salt and daily exposure to snow. These will. I love the buckles, very understated but add some interest. These are also very comfortable, and if they are comfortable now, they will be even better in a few months. The most important thing you need to know is that these definitely run large. I normally wear about a 9 and ordered these in a 9 but they were literally slipping right off my foot. I am sizing down to an 8.5, and I think that will be perfect. People who run right between sizes may want to size down a full size. Overall, I love these. I think they are a beautiful, well constructed boot with just enough detail. They will pair well with a lot of different outfits, and I am so excited to wear them!

I returned these. They are not worth the money! These are far inferior to the Frye Carson Buckle boots that I just ordered, yet they charge the same retail price! The painted rubber heel, unlined shaft, and junky looking antique finish should have put these boots in a much cheaper price range. They are quite pricey for junky boots with cheap components!

Have not had a chance to wear these yet b/c it so hot here this summer. They looked big on my calves, but not too bad with jeans tucked in. Not sure how well they work out with a skirt and I may exchange them. I normally wear a 7 1/2 or 8 and ordered these in an 8. Felt too big.

These boots are very comfortable but do fit a bit larger. The shaft of the boot is soft and has ample room for those who have a larger calf. The color is as shown online and looks great with jeans. I received many compliments on these boots when I wore them. I was able to wear them out for an evening of dancing/socializing and my feet were not sore at all.

Oh, these are just gorgeous boots. They fit my large calves just as easily as the Veronica Slouch, and the leather is soft and lovely. However, the color of the "Dark brown burnished/antiqued" is way darker than the Zappos photo. It's a lovely color, but not at all what I was expecting. I should have probably figured that out from the name of the color, but I've never noticed such a discrepancy with Zappos photos before. Totally bummed. I love them, but I don't want to spend hundreds on boots that aren't what I was shopping for.

I love Frye boots! They last forever and fit so well. I did get them in the cognac like color and I love them. I wear them with everything. The great think about the leather on this is that it is very soft, so you can really get a nice slouch in, or else, you can wear them pulled up. The first time I wore them, I went to a concert afterwards and my feet were not sore, nor any blisters. Definitely worth it!

I received these boots yesterday and I love them! I wear a 7.5 in all shoes except Nike. I ordered 7.5 in these and they fit perfectly. When I put them on, they felt a tiny bit wide and loose towards the heel and ankle so I tightened the bottom buckle one notch and they are perfect! Wearing a thicker sock would work, too. This is my first pair of Frye boots and if anyone is thinking about purchasing a pair, I would highly recommend it. They are so soft and have that nice leather smell. I also read the back story on Frye and how they make their boots...it was pretty interesting. It will make you appreciate them even more! I've had them slightly over 24 hours and have gotten several compliments. Great product, very nice people at Zappos, all around great experience!
