I ordered these and the Carmen 14L inside zip, both size 8. The Vera Slouch, hands down, without a doubt are being sent back. They are super cute but they are very hard and inflexible. I knew immediately that these were going back. The leather that goes over the front is so hard that I did not even bother walking in them. These are definitely not worth the big bucks.

I just received these today, and they are exactly what I was expecting. While the leather is a little stiff, it isn't too bad, and I would actually prefer it that way, personally. As you break them in they will be like a pair of raw denim and conform to your leg rather than being a soft leather from the manufacturer. The smell of leather as I opened the box was pretty overpowering. I purchased the black, and they are a very nice black boot with just enough distressing to add some interest. The bottom of the boot looks like it will have enough traction to be stable enough through a slick & Icy Wisconsin winter, which is a must. Which is another reason I chose this boot over the Carmen 14L. They both have similar looks, but the Carmen is Suede, and suede won't hold up well with salt and daily exposure to snow. These will. I love the buckles, very understated but add some interest. These are also very comfortable, and if they are comfortable now, they will be even better in a few months. The most important thing you need to know is that these definitely run large. I normally wear about a 9 and ordered these in a 9 but they were literally slipping right off my foot. I am sizing down to an 8.5, and I think that will be perfect. People who run right between sizes may want to size down a full size. Overall, I love these. I think they are a beautiful, well constructed boot with just enough detail. They will pair well with a lot of different outfits, and I am so excited to wear them!

Beautiful boots, I do love them. I have medium to wide feet, high insteps and long toes. I ordered my regular size, and they seemed big. Got a half a size down and they were too small, and the shaft was shorter and tighter. I realized then that it was not that my regular size was too big but that for me, there is a lot of heel slippage. They should mold nicely to my feet, if I decide to keep them. My major issue with them is the price; they simply are NOT worth it. The shaft is unlined- yes, I know they are slouch boots, but still. They are over priced, but I know that goes for all Frye boots not made in the US (these are made in Mexico), but the price is really turning me off. I guess I am just used to the classic, heavy, lined Fryes which are so much cheaper and which last forever. These seem a little flimsy to me. I doubt they'll hold up as long as my other Fryes. Might just wait till they go on sale, or maybe I'll just put them away for a few weeks and start wearing them when the sting's gone:)

Loved the way these boots look. I have large calves and have no problem with the fit. These boots come right up under my knees. They work perfectly with skinny jeans. Overall, the look is very casual- the big rounded toe and the distressed leather give these a rugged feel. These look great with jeans and a long cardigan for fall.

I was disappointed in these boots. I have a few pairs of Frye boots, and for these to be on the top end of the price level they looked cheap. The upper leather was very, very thin, and the color did not match the picture; it was less distressed looking. Not worth the price.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Love these boots. As soon as I opened the box and the smell of leather hit me, I was a goner. They are very well made and comfortable. The sizing is generous so you can wear thick socks but I'm glad I didn't size down.

The best boots. They fit great as soon as I put them on. Very comfortable, stylish and timeless. They go with everything - jeans, dresses, skirts, etc. I never spend this much money on footwear, but I know I will wear these forever. High quality Frye craftsmanship - these boots will will last.

I ordered 3 pairs of Frye boots to try, and this is the pair I'm keeping. I have a very high instep and usually have trouble with slip-on boots, but not with this pair. Easy on, easy off. The leather is soft and comfortable. I ordered a 1/2 size down, and my heel does still slip a little, but it's not terrible. I'm hoping as I wear them, they'll get more comfortable.

I absolutely love these boots! I have muscular calves & after trying on several pairs of boots, I have finally found a pair of tall boots that fit well. These are hands down my favorite. I also purchased the Frye Veronica boots, which is a similar look without the heel or shaft height. Both pairs of boots are very well made & comfortable. I ordered my regular size in both styles & found that the Vera fits a little bit looser than the Veronica, but that is easily resolved with a thicker sock. Thank you Zappos for always making shoe shopping a pleasant experience!

I loved these boots. Unfortunately, I had to return them. I have a thin calf and they just didn't look good on my leg. I am heartbroken because they had all the qualities that I was looking for in a boot.

I sent these boots back in the end. I knew I would never be happy with them because they are definitely not worth the price and the leather feels cheap. I ended up buying the Frye Sabrina 14L and also the Sabrina lace up boots. Absolutely exquisite. I had no hesitation about keeping both pairs as they are beautifully made and very comfortable. Why the Vera's are so expensive is beyond me... I'd pay a little less for a pair and that's about my limit. :)

I absolutely love these boots but I had to exchange them once before finding the perfect pair. The first pair were constructed from different hides - the left boot was thinner, lighter leather and the right one was a thicker, darker leather. I am so glad that I was persistent because these have been my favorite boots of the season. They have received tons of compliments!

I love this boot. There's no beating its style. I've worn it more than I expected -- with skirts, over fitted jeans, under wide leg jeans, etc. The toe box was a little narrow for my right foot (I've always had this problem with cowboy-style boots), but I had the boot stretched at a local boot shop and that did the trick. I recommend insoles as well.

I returned these. They are not worth the money! These are far inferior to the Frye Carson Buckle boots that I just ordered, yet they charge the same retail price! The painted rubber heel, unlined shaft, and junky looking antique finish should have put these boots in a much cheaper price range. They are quite pricey for junky boots with cheap components!
