Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Absolutely great looking sheepskin lined boot. I usually wear a 9 in the Uggs with the practical 2", heels, and an 8-1/2 in Frye harness. I needed to size up one whole size in this bot, to 9-1/2. Here's why...It's a traditional leather sole (with thin rubber sole sewn on for traction), and it's relatively thin, especially if you've been wearing Ugg type composite heels. To get comfort I had to add a sheepskin or gel insert. The whole boot is lined in sheepskin but I found I needed the extra padding for comfort. The Frye shearling is a great alternative to Ugg, though they should add the reflective liner in the bottom for warmth.

These are a great addition to my ever growing Frye collection. Comfortable even after a long day of shopping and endless walking. Goes well with leggings and skinny jeans. Have received many compliments already. The boots feel a little stiff still, also a tad difficult to tighten the laces. But I think they will get better...just needs more breaking in. If you have the extra dough, grab these. If it is a choice between a pull on pair of Frye's and the lace up...I still prefer my pull-ons but these are a great change. High quality and workmanship as is expected with Frye. Felt true to size, nice support.
I'd also recommend: Dr. Martens, Born, Miss Sixty

I love this shoe! I usually wear a 9.5-10, I ordered the 10 and it fits great. First time wearing them, they were a little tight across the top of my foot, but the next time didn't bother me at all!

I didn't want to spend this much on a pair of boots but when they arrived I realized that they are worth the money. These boots are so well made and comfortable. The best looking hikers out there by far.

I first bought Frye Vera tall boots couple weeks ago and have been wearing it almost every day. Super comfortable, doesn't feel like you are wearing a 2 inches heel so I decided to try out Vera Hiker. I have to go down half size for Vera tall but for Vera Hiker I order my normal size for Frye's boot in 6.5 and it fit me fine. The boot is made in Mexico, good substantial leather and workmanship. However, I don't think this "Hiker" boot is made for hiking in rough terrain. Not impressed with the thin rubber soles; fine to walk around town but I'm not sure about the snow. I love the style; I can also wear it with shorts come spring/summer. Zappos is my Number 1 Favorite Shoes store! Excellent Customer Service.
