The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These boots are beautiful. The leather is stiff on the outside but super soft on the inside. I ordered these in a size 9 and they fit perfectly. My only complaint is that the listed calf circumference was incorrect. My calves measure at exactly 16 inches but these were barely making it up my leg. I took them to a cobbler who stretched them and I had him put rubber soles on them so they'll last longer and I won't slip. I recommend putting the rubber soles on for sure. Aside from them initially not fitting my calf, they have been fabulous. I wear them with leggings, dresses, tights, and eventually I will wear them with jeans once I get a pair of skinny jeans!

I've lusted after Frye boots for a long time, but could never quite get myself to fork over the money to buy a pair. After reading several glowing reviews however, I finally caved and purchased these. Working abroad, I'm always excited to get something new in the mail! Like little presents to myself. But this time the euphoria lasted only as long as it took me to open the box. Not only was the quality not up to the standards I would expect for such an expensive boot, but as many others mentioned, I couldn't squeeze my heel into the boot. I used the bag trick and eventually got them on, but then because I have relatively thin ankles and calves, the boots looked sad and saggy around my legs. I am by no means cheap when it comes to my shoe collection, but the quality should be on par with the price and these boots just didn't cut it. I intend to return them immediately.

I have purchased and returned 12 pairs of riding boots in an effort to find the perfect pair. These are exactly what I was looking for. They are pricey, but they are well worth it. They look expensive, the leather is beautiful, and they feel much more solid and well made than anything else that I have tried. I bought Tory Burch, Enzo, and many other Frye boots, and I am in love with these. They are very hard to get into the first time. They also run big, I believe. I bought a 9½ at first, and I always wear a 9½. But the 9½ was too long, and the 9 was a perfect fit once I got them on. They are roomy in the calf, too. I think they would be fine for skinny calves, or bigger calves. They were pretty uncomfortable the first time I wore them, but I wore them for 12 hours, and they are such high quality leather that they will break in and mold to your feet after a few wearings. Nothing worth having is easy, and I do believe that I will have to live with a few painful outings in these before they are super comfortable. But I believe in fashion over comfort. If you are a comfort before fashion person, perhaps these are not the boots for you unless you are willing to put in the time it might take to get the leather molded to your foot. They are perfect over jeans, or just with skirts or dresses. I have worn them twice, and I felt fabulous each time. I got many compliments the first time I wore them, and I want them in every color. They are highly recommended!

Home run! I bought these boots as a Christmas present for my 19 year old daughter who is an athlete with very muscular calves. She can never find hip boots that fit and allow her to tuck in her jeans. These very stylish boots fit perfectly. The slit-back design is both attractive and gives the extra space. It is a week after Christmas and she is still grinning every time she puts them on.
