Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I just received these boots and I feel in love right away! They are great quality, look nice, and are stylish. I know I will have these for a long time, as they are a timeless piece for my wardrobe. They are also very comfortable! Thank you, Zappos! I have narrow feet, I am a size 7 but ordered half a size down in these and they fit wonderfully.
I'd also recommend: dolce vida, born

This boot is great! I was a 9 1/2 in it, as I am in most Frye shoes (except for their Harness boots -- I wear an 8 1/2, but that is very unusual). My feet are long, narrow, and flat, and these fit great. The boot felt true-to-size and very well made. The heel cups your foot well, and there is a comfortable amount of room in the toe box. The sole is padded, and quite comfortable to walk in. Once again, Frye knocks it out of the park!

I was looking for a stout boot to travel in. It is a well made shoe and the leather is nicer than the photo. It just isn't comfortable. It is tight across the foot just below the lower lace just as the rather high arch begins.

I ordered a pair of these in walnut, and I absolutely love them. The heel is slightly higher than I anticipated, but they feel so good on my feet that I walk all over in them anyway with no problem. A beautiful boot, made of very high quality. I will say I do have pretty narrow feet and small legs, so not every Frye boot works for me. These are fantastic though, and I get compliments on them all the time. They work with boot cut or cuffed skinny jeans, and have quickly become my official go-to shoes. Totally recommend these!

I got these in black. I love them! Great quality, all leather! The leather is pebbled and pliable except for toe. I am a size 9B normally, but always take size 8.5 in Frye due to their tendency to run long consistently. I got these in 8.5. Here's the 411 on the sizing. Lengthwise, they fit fine with no heel slippage and enough toe room, so they run 1/2 size large in length as usual. HOWEVER, width-wise, they are narrow in the forefoot. If you get them to fit your length, they will be snug in width. I toyed with going to a size 9, but that would probably cause heel slipping which I can't stand, and I don't need extra length. I tried them on with handknit woolies -too thick. Then with a thin cotton sock -perfect. It alleviated the squeeze feeling. They ARE NOT for the wide-footed! They are perfect for narrow footed people. They'll work for medium width gals with thin socks. These boots definitely need a break-in, so I will do my Christmas shopping in them. The leather will stretch and then they'll be perfect in width as well. Here's the good news: The black ones' make your feet look tiny, they are a funky juxtaposition of feminine and tough and are a perfect go-to black shoe for jeans. I resisted the gorgeous cognac color since I needed black, and am so glad I did. The other colors don't quite have the same funk appeal as the black ones. These are keepers!!
