Great durable boot, works equally well in both casual and semi-formal environments. A bit wider in the toe than it shows in the picture (looks "rounder" in real life), and the coloring is a darker brown than shown.

Got these on sale, as I am NEVER buying Chinese shoes EVER! So I tried 2 pairs of 9 1/2's and couldn't get a comfortable fit, but I purchased and have worn the size 10's. They are okay only for me, makes my foot look longer. They overall look good, as others have said do not look like a hiking boot, are tough and appear durable wish they had Vibram soles for longer lasting wear. They are worth what I paid and can be resoled which is what I will buy from now on! I am just not enthusiastic about these, but they do what they were intense for and I will wear them out! Thank You Zappos!

I'd also recommend: HELM BOOTS-Austin Texas, Wolverine Boots, Allen Edmonds

This is a great looking boot, and is generally comfortable to walk in; just don't walk too much. I'm on my feet about 20-30 hours a week, and I like to wear these most of that time. After a month the sole at the heal has already worn down to the wood base (I observed wear after 2 days). For the price, I don't think I should need to re-sole boots after a month or so. Additionally, Frye decided to make their logo part of the design of the tread on the heal. This leads to very narrow gaps between tread points, resulting in small pebbles routinely getting stuck in the tread (a problem I've only rarely encountered with lug-tread boots). Small pebbles stuck in your boot tread are instantly noticeable when they scratch wood flooring. On the up-side of the wear-down, resoling will allow me to put a normal tread on the heals. Be sure to order a full size, to size and a half down. I typically wear a 10.5 and purchased these in a 9.5 and they still run a little larger than I'd like. Heavy socks help, but I think I could have gone as low as a 9 for a perfect fit.

I've had a pair of Rogan hikers for a few years. They aren't a real "hiker", but the hardware is heavy duty, great quality, they fit my foot well, good traction without having too deep of a tread, are reasonably light weight, warm enough with heavy socks - an excellent bad weather boot, especially when you are going in/out a lot. I actually like the look of the alpine hiker better - a little lower, sleeker, so went with a pair that was on sale. Everything went great for the first two weeks, couldn't have been happier. Then the stitching started to pull out of the right boot instep. I considered taking them to get repaired but even at a discount, still pricey, so I returned them. I've had several pairs of Fryes in the past - they always fit the same, high quality...so taking this as a one off for now. Hope it isn't a sign of quality degrading due to Mexico/China outsourcing.

I'd also recommend: Red Wing, Chippewa,

Bought these on sale for my husband. A good looking boot for work. He just tried them on and felt they were too narrow (d-medium). This is a first for him as every D-Medium has fit in other shoes. He usually wears a 12 1/2-13 so when I bought the 12 I was unsure but the length was just fine. Love Zappos but they will be going back.
