I bought these to wear to work in the Wyoming winter where I live. Lug soles are good on snow and ice but those big snow boots are too much. These are lighter and better for me. I like the style of the Rogan Alpine. It reminds me of some hikers I wore in the early 70s in college. They fit right out of the box with minimal break in required. I got a 1/2 size smaller than I usually wear and they fit just right. I have two other Frye boots, so I knew about sizing. I have some Danner hikers which are real hiking boots that can stand up to water, rocks, etc. these are more like hiking style boots, so I won't be hiking with them. I work in an office, so in winter I can just walk through the snow to my truck and drive away, instead of changing into my Sorel snow boots. I can save those for when I go skiing in the mountains. I am very pleased with all of my Frye boots and I even have some Frye sandals. Thanks Zappos for the Uber fast delivery!

These are some nice looking boots. I wanted some motorcycle boots and I tried these; however, on the left foot they were tight across the first lace loops. I really wanted to keep these but I can't chance that they will eventually stretch.

I'd also recommend: love frye will keep trying

I've only had these a day but so far they feel pretty good. Need a bit to break in, but nothing major. Feel true to size and also not overly huge or bulky looking like a lot of hiker type boots. Frye makes some solid stuff, soles seem like they will take a beating as well. One thing to note is the colors seem way off on this site. Cross check the Frye site before you order to get a better idea of what the color is. I ordered the tan tumbled and it was a lot more tan than what was represented on this site. Wasn't a big deal for me, but may be for others.

I've had a pair of Rogan hikers for a few years. They aren't a real "hiker", but the hardware is heavy duty, great quality, they fit my foot well, good traction without having too deep of a tread, are reasonably light weight, warm enough with heavy socks - an excellent bad weather boot, especially when you are going in/out a lot. I actually like the look of the alpine hiker better - a little lower, sleeker, so went with a pair that was on sale. Everything went great for the first two weeks, couldn't have been happier. Then the stitching started to pull out of the right boot instep. I considered taking them to get repaired but even at a discount, still pricey, so I returned them. I've had several pairs of Fryes in the past - they always fit the same, high quality...so taking this as a one off for now. Hope it isn't a sign of quality degrading due to Mexico/China outsourcing.

I'd also recommend: Red Wing, Chippewa,

Out of the box best pair of boots I've ever ordered. Leather is so soft it feels like they've been broken in for me. 2 days after delivery I put them to the test in CO.
