Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Buy these boots! I'm a huge fan of quality footwear and have wanted a pair of Frye boots for quite a while. After pouring over the selection on Zappos, I finally decided on the Phillip work boot in black. I chose them for their versatility as a casual boot that could also be a little dressy. When they arrived (Zappos always ships quickly) I was blown away by the quality: beautiful soft, full-grain leather, hard wearing but not chunky, and surprisingly comfortable right off the bat. Yes, these Frye's are made in Mexico, but the workmanship seems impeccable. I wear a 10 1/2 in athletic shoes but ordered a 10 after reading reviews that mentioned they run large. The 10s fit well, so going half a size smaller seems to be a good rule of thumb. I've only had these a few days but have already gotten multiple compliments from complete strangers. Yes, women do notice your shoes. I usually wear them with some jeans and a leather jacket, but you could wear them with slacks and a tie as well. Wearing them with a full-formal suit would be pushing it a little but though. Overall, I'm very pleased with these boots, and with proper care (order the Frye Weatherproof Dressing and protect them from the elements) I'm confident they'll last for many years to come.

This is the first review of any product that I can remember doing. Certainly the first of the past few years. That being said, this shoe is worthy. I was looking for a comfortable boot able to be worn in work and casual situations. This boot is perfect and molds to my foot. Comfortable for 8 hours of wear or more a day.

I bought these boots for my husband and he loves them! He says they are comfortable, and didn't take long to break in. And I think they look great! Many friends have commented and want to purchase them now.

I bought the Dark Brown Vintage Brush. Very comfortable out of the box. I usually have problems with where the bottom of the tongue fits, as I have a high foot, and I normally have to be very careful with boots. These were very nice straight away, the workmanship is really high quality (it's night and day compared to Timberland and other cheaper pair of boots) so don't be deterred by the price. Frye boots will last a lifetime and can be resoled. Size wise these are a bit longer than I normally wear (1/2 size) but as I've got wider feet than most the width is great.

These boots are great. I disagree with the other review saying that they run small. I usually wear a ten in gym shoes. I ordered a 9 1/2 because other frye boot reviews all say they run big. These were still to large and I returned them for a 9 which fits perfectly.
