Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

This boot is so amazingly jolie-laide tough-girl sexy I cannot even deal. It's well-made, too, and the distressing on the leather is awesome. Unfortunately, it doesn't zip up around my ankles -- I have wide ankles & calves -- so back it goes. If you have big calves that start low, even though this is an ankle boot, you might want to give it a miss.

These shoes definitely run at least a half size smaller than you would normally order. I am a 7 in everything and the 7 felt too tight, it was hard to zip up and unzip. I returned them in exchange for a 7.5 and even those are not very roomy but I think they will break-in comfortably. I ordered the dark brown and the cognac because I couldn't decide -- I prefer the cognac in person, it is not as light as it looks online and it has a little more character than the dark brown does. These are great boots though and I can't wait to wear them for years to come!

Sad to have sent these back. I really liked them, but for me they for just too narrow. I am normally a 9.5-10(m). I went with the 9.5's and had about 1/2 an inch of wiggle room at the toes. The length was perfect, but the width was just too narrow. I own the Veronica Slouch in 9.5m and those fit great; thought since the styles was similar these would work. They are lovely in person and I would recommend them to those with narrow feet. It's worth a try, you won't lose anything with Zappos' great return policy. Maybe they'll work for you. By the way, I had no zipper issues and the quality is great. Leather smells yummy.
