Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These boots just arrived on my doorstep and they are gorgeous! A very well-made, high quality boot. In response to the reviews that indicate that the ankle looks "weird" and make reference to "cankles," I would say that you need to understand that the style of this boot is somewhat slouchy. There will be some slouching in the ankle. It's not necessarily unflattering; it's just the style - a more relaxed look as opposed to a sleek, refined look.

I wore these boots one time only for two hours and they stretched out tremendously. Felt very floppy and uncomfortable.

I bought the size I usually buy, don't think I'd be able to get my foot into 1/2 size smaller. Certainly couldn't get my foot in with a wool sock on, even with ordering my usual size. Also, read a lot of reviews that say 'I have large calves and these leave plenty of room to tuck in skinny jeans', well ladies, you must not really have large calves, because I have to scrunch them down to get them on with tights. Big calves is a relative term. I'm keeping them regardless, love them. Super comfy all day on day one. Great Frye quality. Still think I must be crazy for spending this much on boots, but I rarely spoil myself (mother of 2). All in all, order in 3 sizes and try them all on. With free shipping and returns, you can afford to.

I just got this boot today and I am so excited! I took the other ladies advice on the size and they were right. I usually wear a 6.5 to 7 and I ordered a 6.5 and it fits perfectly. It did take some fighting to put them on at first but that is to be expected. Leather will break in after a few wears. The boot is a little on the loose side...but it is by no means slouch or baggy. The boot has perfect shape. If you are looking for a boot that is extremely tight around the calves, this boot is not for you. I wanted something that was a little more relaxed and would look good with anything. I have a very busy 2 year old so I needed something to throw on and still look cute. These are perfect. Worth the money for sure!
I'd also recommend: kate spade, coach, cole haan

What I loved about this boot is the soft leather is very comfortable (it has a padded insole), it is basic without being too plain. What I did not love is that because it us a pull-on style, the part around the ankle is very loose. Also, if you have thin calves these will probably be too baggy overall. I wanted to love them, but unfortunately had to send them back.
