I really agree with the way Frye is advertising these boots, i.e. as a way not to totally lose your style in the cold weather and snow. The boots are really cute and comfortable. You can roll up the shearling cuff to change the look, too. I ordered the brown and black for comparison and definitely prefer the look of the brown in real life. I recommend going up 1/2 size. They run just a little small and if you intend to wear thicker socks in the winter, the bigger size will allow better circulation to your toes, which is key in the winter! I am only rating the boots 3 stars overall, though, because they are quite pricey.
Brands I'd also recommend: biviel

These are comfy but not supportive. Absolutely order up. I am normally an 8, and I wear a 7.5 in Frye harness boots. I needed an 8.5 in these. I wanted to love them, but the total lack of arch support and soft sole meant my ankles kept rolling inwards. I have to return them. Both black and brown look great in person.

These are super comfortable and the inside is really soft. I originally went half a size up as suggested by the reviews, but they were much too large, perhaps I am really half a size smaller then i think I am, but I got my normal size and they are perfect for wearing thick socks with. The shearling flap can fold up but the back of it is not the same leather at the rest of the boot, it is still really cute though. I love these boots.

Just got my boots yesterday and I love them! They are both gorgeous and super soft and comfortable. I normally wear a size 8.5-9. I ordered the 9 and they fit perfectly with a thicker sock. Only 24 hours from the time I ordered til they were delivered. Thank you Zappos!

Love these boots! It may be gross but I wear them without socks just like my Uggs and they are amazing. I found they ran true to size. Super soft leather too.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I love Frye boots, but this one, the shape is so weird around the foot! Looking down onto your feet, the shape is not attractive. My heel is also falling back and the toe springs up. Very disappointed since I dont wear Uggs I was looking for a chic shearling line boot.

These boots are very comfy and probably very warm.. but I agree with a previous reviewer that the toe shape is just too odd. I ordered the black and the brown and definitely liked the brown color better. Still searching for the perfect snow boot. Runs about a half size large. I usually wear a 9, but the 8 1/2 fit just right.

I was looking for boots to replace my Uggs and was also looking for something I can wear in the rain with good gripping on the soles. This was perfect for what I was looking for. Look great with jeans tucked in and can be worn with boot cut jeans as well.super comfy and toasty. It's a bit of a slouchy boot so its good for more casual wears. Finally, don't wear it in the rain for the first time. Let the sole scuff up a bit because the first time will be slippery otherwise. These are true to size and you can to wear thin socks with them.
