Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I usually do not rave about shoe purchases as I am very particular about fit and style. I bought these in black before winter 2012 and have worn them all winter - it is now almost March. I live in Idaho where it snows, and sand and salt are everywhere. These are beautiful. I am not kidding. The toe is neither round nor pointed. It is just right. The heel is a very stylish height, yet I can walk comfortably. They look great after a long winter (that is not yet over). The black leather finish is still black and shiny and I haven't polished them or treated them. Just a damp cloth when I remove them if they have been exposed to salt. The stacked heel held up very well. These are my go-to boots for travel and shopping. I absolutely love them for style and comfort. I hope Frye never discontinues these. I am hoping for these to go on sale and if they do, I will buy another pair for when these wear out - probably in years to come. They are pricey, but in the long term, they are a good value because they are so wearable and durable.

I have to retract my previous review...before sending them I decided to look at them one more time and I noticed there was a thin cardboard insert in the front that I hadn't taken out before! They fit really well now. Not a long-distance walking shoe, but I can walk in them and not feel like I am going to topple over. I am so happy! The Vintage Grey is so beautiful -- it matches earth tones as well as greys and blacks. I did notice (was I really tired when I tried them on the first time?!) that the logo on the left shoe was all crooked and had strange markings around it -- as if the leather wasn't stretched on properly. I think Frye should have their shoes made in the USA again. Anyway, of course Zappos is sending a new pair! Love Zappos!

I bought this in the grey. Love the color! These are great with jeans or skirts/dresses with tights. The heel height is perfect for me...not too high, not too low. Could be a bit much if you are doing a lot of standing or walking.

These are the most expensive shoes I've ever bought, and worth every penny. I work in a restaurant and I'm on my feet all day. These are the only heels I can wear for that without causing myself a lot of pain. Love them! Wish I could afford a second pair in another color.

I bought the brown pair of Miranda booties last year and I was so bummed I didn't get the black until I saw this pair. The biggest difference is the these have a zip closure instead of the elastic slip on from last year. Regardless, this is a fantastic bootie. Totally worth the money even though some would consider the price point high. Stylish, comfortable and an all around great buy.
