The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I wanted to love these shoes but the toe box was very cramped, rubbing the side of my toes. I have relatively narrow feet and changing sizes would not correct the problem with the front of the shoe, so unfortunately they had to go back.

Normally, I am a huge Frye fan. But yuck! These shoes arrived covered in a weird, ugly mildew-like powder that smeared off on my fingers as soon as I touched one of the shoes. I put it back in the box and sealed it up, returning the product immediately. What a disappointment. I wasn't about to try them on, so, unfortunately, I can't really say with any honesty whether or not they're comfortable.

I've been wanting these boots for two years now and finally decided to invest in them. These are my second pair of frye boots, and the are totally worth the price. These shoes are comfortable, true to size and the heel is just I under 4" which I love. I'm 5'6 and don't feel comfortable wearing high shoes. I would recommend this shoes. I've worn these shoes with a dress an tights, also snobby jean and capris. These shoes go with everything.

These are pretty shoes that are extremely well made. Unfortunately, they look better in the pictures, and the problem is likely this color as the slate color almost looks dirty in person. I think doing it again I would go with the tan or the darker colors. Also, they ran small. My wife is almost never an 8½, but the 8 was too small.

Love these shoes! I thought they were a tiny bit too long when I first put them on, but as I wore them the very small gap in the heel disappeared and they fit beautifully. The waxy stuff is easy to wipe off and the leather underneath is beautiful. The heel is tall but very sturdy and easy to walk in, and I stood in these all day with no problem or discomfort.
