The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Absolutely love them! I didn't expect to get compliments on such a casual shoe, but I do. The picture can't really show how supple the leather is, and leather laces add a nice detail. They felt slightly snug at first but they've shaped to my foot after a few wearings - now they fit perfectly.

I love these but I'm returning them because they have zero arch support. I ordered both the black nubuck and the light brown nubuck. I wasn't sure if I would like the nubuck because the suede looked like fish scales online. They are amazing! The leather is really soft and good quality. I normally wear a wide 10.5, so I got the 11 and my toes just barely fit. My toes also feel a little crammed width-wise, but the leather feels like it will stretch to fit after a few wears, so that's not an issue. If you are between sizes or have a very wide foot, I recommend ordering up. Unfortunately they have to go back. The foot bed has zero padding or support and there definitely isn't room for an insert. When I walk it feels like my arches are flattening out. My feet hurt after wearing them for a very short distance. It's a shame, because I love the style.

I got the grey soft vintage and I really love the feel and look of these shoes. They are soft and good quality. The fit is right on, I took my usual size in shoes. These look cute with a wide variety of outfits.

I'd also recommend: born, merrill, stewart weitzman, la canadienne, frye.

I just received my chukkas this afternoon with the usual speediness of Zappos. They are very well made, though the leather is a little more thin that I first supposed but it is good leather: the area around the ankle is supple and not stiff. I usually wear an 8.5 or 9 and have narrow feet. I bought the 9 and though my toes almost hit the ends, I think there's enough room when they give a little from wearing that they'll be okay. Cannot wear thick socks though, only thin ones. The color is a little lighter than pictured, more of a medium shade of khaki. They are lightweight like moccasins but not much arch support.
