Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I love these boots. I would never have thought to spend so much money on a pair of boots but worth every dime.

I ordered the Melissa Harness in both Whiskey and Black size 6, because I wasn't sure which color I'd like better. The black ones were pretty but I had to send them back because they squeaked loudly with every step! If you've ever had a pair of leather shoes or boots that squeaks, it's usually in the stitching and you know it doesn't go away with wear. Too risky for the price of these boots! But the Whiskey is a gorgeous, rich color, the leather is soft and the details are beautiful. I wear a 6.5 in shoes, have narrow feet and slim legs and found that a size 6 in Frye boots fits better. The 6 in these boots is more snug in the toebox and foot overall than the Paige Studs I bought a few weeks ago (which are fantastic!), but still comfortable with or without thin socks. From all the reviews I've read, they'll stretch a little. I measured the shaft circumference on these and it's 15-15.25" (the Paige Studs measure 14.5"). There's a gap even with jeans tucked in, but it looks ok to me. I've tried these on a bunch but haven't worn them out yet because I'm trying to justify the price, but they are SO fabulous I'm sure I'll keep them! This is my 2nd pair of Frye boots and I understand why everyone loves them so much. The quality, feel, styles, leathers and colors are just unmatched! I'm still looking for a pair of black boots and waiting on Zappos to have the Jackie Button back in stock. I could order them elsewhere, but not with free overnight shipping, free returns, and Zappos unparalleled customer service!

I have several Frye Boots and I wanted to love these boots so bad. They fit perfectly but I could not get over the fact that the top of the boot looked puffy and because of this I had to return them.
