Absolutely beautiful...A perfect fit from the start. Purchased the cognac color. The pictures online do not do them justice. Always love the zippered boots--skinny jeans fit wonderfully inside. Frye has definitely outdone themselves on this boot!

First let me say that Zappos is the best! Super fast shipping and great customer service. I ordered these boots around 9pm and received them the next morning. Amazing! These Frye boots are really perfect. The fit is true to size, and I had zero problem breaking them in...in fact, they were very comfortable the same day I wore them. They are great for those with large calves, and the leather will expand to fit because of the stretch material. The are of excellent quality and look great; I am 5' and these boots make my legs look sleek. It took me forever to find a pair that works for me, and these were worth the search. I am thrilled!

I have been looking for so long for the perfect leather boot and I have found it. I have very large athletic calves (between 15 1/2 and 16 inches)and they fit! I like that these boots have a zipper as well, because it definitely helps with putting them on and taking them off. I can even tuck my flare jeans into these! For sizing I'm usually a size 8, but they only had 8 1/2 in stock so I figured I'd try it out and they fit perfectly fine. Wasn't happy about spending so much money but these boots are definitely worth it.

Did not like...difficult to walk in, leather felt cheap and zipper was huge. My daughter thought they were rain boots.

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Boots are a nice design but the calf seems large for me. The craftsmanship is terrible. The left boot's zipper is tweaked and runs almost toward the front of the boot. They are going back, unfortunately. I will not reorder another Frye boot. Last year I ordered Frye's and they aren't very comfortable for the price. Also the 5.5 seems like a 6.

Whenever I'm in need of new boots, Frye is my go-to brand. The leather always holds up extraordinarily and the look of the boot is just flawless. I sort of purchased the Melissa Gore Zip boots on a whim, and I am beyond pleased with my decision. While I'll admit that leather boots are always a bit tough to break in at first, the second time I slipped these on, I felt as if they were already broken in and fit like a glove. If you're on the fence about purchasing these, whether you presume the issue to be the price or the style, I would recommend to just go with your instinct and purchase them! As always, a wonderful boot from Frye.

Loved the leather and styling. Somewhat strange to walk in, compared to other Frye boots and brands. Loved the look of the shaft and the easy zipper. But alas, I have abnormally long legs and the height just wasn't high enough for me, such a shame, I love these boots.

I agree with everyone that said if you are on the fence because of the price...just buy them! They are even more beautiful than the pictures, a true classic boot. My calves are quite large for most Frye boots (15 inches), so the stretch panels on these boots are a dream. They become easier to zip on and off every time I wear them now. Tip: I did much research on Fryes before buying. It is an investment, you will have these forever if you care for them properly. The proper fit for new Frye boots should be quite snug around the front of the foot, and your heel should slip a bit when you walk. The leather is quite supple so once you break them in (I hear this can take quite a while! Be patient) the boot will fit comfortably and the heel will stop slipping. You will also probably wear 1/2 to a whole size down from your normal size. If they fit comfortably from the get go, they are too big. A cobbler can stretch them further if you need, but once they are too big and stretched out, you can't fix that. Also, make sure to get the Frye weatherproof dressing and apply one or two coats before wearing them outside. It darkens the leather slightly, but in a good way. The last thing I have to say is the bottom of these particular boots is slippery on carpets! They will be slippy and slidy when you are trying them for fit, but once you wear them on pavement, it will rough up the bottom and this will go away.

Somehow I must have mixed these boots up with other Melissa boots because I was totally surprised to see that the upper was not 100% leather, and had the gore material instead. I was really disappointed because otherwise the boots fit really well - not too tight on my athletic calves and also very stylish. But if I am going to spend that kind of money I want all leather, so they are going back. This was the third pair of Frye boots that I tried and all have gone back. I am not giving up though! Thanks, Zappos, for making this trial and error period more bearable and also thanks to all the reviewers that submit their reviews.

I have had a pair of the Melissa button boots for a year now and was wearing them almost everyday. So I started looking for another pair of Frye's to throw into my rotation. I wanted some that were a little more unique and that would fit my larger calves. These fit perfectly on the first try and the leather is a gorgeous tan color! I also love that they are a bit more equestrian, as opposed to the Melissa Button's western look.

I love these boots. I was in the hunt for caramel colored riding boots and these were absolutely perfect. I wrestled with purchasing these boots for months because they definitely are not cheap. However, I decided to go for it since I couldn't find anything else that compared and I knew it would be an investment. While it is expensive you get what you pay for the leather is really great quality. It's a little awkward to walk in them once you get them (especially on carpet) but after you break them in they are fine. The only other slightly negative aspect is that they do not provide the best support, but it's not terrible and I don't regret buy them because of it!

I am so disappointed in the quality of these boots. I have always wanted a pair of Frye boots, having known how highly the brand is regarded. Well, these boots, which are made in Mexico by the way, are not even properly sewn together. The zipper on the left boot is stitched in farther forward, so when you stand squarely looking straight ahead, the left zipper is much more visible. They look cheap. The leather is very stiff. This is not at all what I had expected from this brand. I am bummed out because they fit me very well, but for this much money, I want my left and right boots to at least match.
