Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I am a size 18 with very big feet - most of the time, an 11 will pinch. I took a chance on these boots because folks said they ran a bit big, and I am delighted! (Frye is one of the only companies that makes boots in an 11.) They fit perfectly, even on my "big" foot (the right one is the one that's huge, the left is probably a true size 11). If you have high arches, you might have trouble pulling them on, but you can loosen the leather strap across the arch and it gives you quite a lot more breathing room, and once they start to loosen up (we're talking about an hour) they come on and off pretty easily. They do feel a bit narrow through the widest part of the foot, as someone else mentioned, but after wearing for just 20 or 30 minutes they were really quite comfortable. If you have very wide feet, these might pinch. I also measured my calf according to the reviews, and was afraid the calves would be snug, but they are actually roomy and comfortable over leggings without being too slouchy. I don't think there will be any problem wearing over skinny jeans. With very bulky jeans, it might be an issue. I'm also 5'10" so I was afraid they would not be "tall" on me, but they are perfect, maybe an inch to 2 inches below the knee. I wore them around the house with stockings today to break them in, and will upgrade to thicker socks every day until they're broken in and loose. Also would like to mention that the picture does not do the tan leather justice! These boots are so beautiful I literally just about want to cry. They are so soft and the color is darker and more subtle than the photo, absolutely beautiful. The leather is amazingly soft, just gorgeous. I am ecstatically happy with my first-ever pair of boots!

I like these boots but I did want the Carmen Harness. I was able to get my bad foot in with very little discomfort. They are good for the money.

These boots are timeless - really like the way they look with skinny jeans tucked into them. Will also look great with boot cut jeans that go over the boots.

I absolutely love these boots! I am a 7 wide and usually get a 7.5 in shoes that aren't available in wide. For these, though, 7 fits well and the 7.5 was way too loose in the heel. Walking around in my office they're perfectly comfy. Sometimes when doing more walking outside, they feel a bit too narrow in the ball of my foot. They aren't all the way broken in yet, and I think they'll be perfect in a couple of weeks. They are so, so stylish though, and look equally nice with skirts and with jeans.

I ordered my usual size (i have 3 other pairs of Frye boots) and they were very small, and far too narrow, and I have a narrow foot. The calf was also too tight, and I have fairly thin calves, I have never had an issue with any boot fitting my calves. They say they are 15" in circumference, but my 14" calves barely fit into them. Perhaps this was just an off pair.
