The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

This shoe is beautiful and quite comfortable. I would prefer a heel about 1/2 inch lower, but overall, it's lovely, and I know I'll enjoy wearing it often, both with pants and with skirts. Comfortable right out of the box. Note: the shoe comes covered with a whitish powder from the factory, but that rubs off easily with a soft cloth. I love that this shoe is made in the USA. I am returning two other pairs I bought at the same time that are nowhere near as nice, and both were made in China.

Shoes fit great---love the style. There is a bit of a platform in these, which is ok I guess but was not expecting it. Hope the leather does not "wear" around the platform. These shoes are made in China. Even though the description doesn't say where made, I was expecting better from Frye due to the price. I'm going to give these shoes 5 stars but I'm disappointed re: country of origin.

These shows are insanely comfortable. When trying them on right out of the box they almost felt like slippers! I had to purchase directly from Frye since Zappos didn't have my size. The nice woman at Frye assured me that they will become available again this coming fall. Zappos is my vendor of choice. Love Zappos and their service.

I just opened my box of tan Frye Lois oxfords, and gingerly pried the tightly packed tissue from the inside. My fear is that these shoes would be super scrunchy in the toes, but to my delight, they did not feel tight at all. There was just the perfect amount of toe room. Surprising, since the shoes look slim and hard. They are comfortable right out of the box. I am so happy they fit the slightly bigger of my two feet, I have not even tried on the other shoe yet! Buy these and enjoy!

I thought these would be too stiff when I put them on for the first time, but they were super comfortable all day long. I wear a 9 and they fit perfectly. They have kind of a Wicked Witch of the West vibe, in a kind of sexy way.
