Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I have had these boots now about two weeks. I've almost got them broken in. They are a quality boot. I wanted them for all purpose use - snow, work boot, being in the woods with protection from poison ivy. The lug soles are great. My only complaint is the laces were too short to lace to the top and easily tie a bow. I asked Zappos for a replacement. They said there were no replacement laces. I would think, for the price I paid, they could provide a longer set of laces. Overall, I am very satisfied and expect these to last a long time.

I originally ordered these boots in tan (the last pair in my size), but there was clearly something wrong with the right boot. It rubbed so badly on the instep in one spot that after just a few minutes, I had a huge red, painful mark. Moleskin did not help. In the hopes it was just the boot, and not the general design, I ordered them in black, since my size in tan was sold out. They are perfect! I love them - they really stabilize your foot and ankle. I am hoping the tan will become available in the future - I will definitely order them!

I love this boot. After wearing them inside a little, I decided to wear them while walking around at a Home Show. I only expected to be there an hour or so, but ended up being there all afternoon (over four hours!) the whole time on my feet. Even though the boots were a bit stiff from being new, and the balls of my feet are wide and I thought the boots might rub, they were extremely comfortable. It's hard to find a good tough work boot that fits a woman's foot, but this just may be it.

Wow..met all my expectations!!! I read the reviews for this awesome looking boot, and I agreed I had to try them, especially after feeling so strongly about my Frye harness boots, which I love!! I have a fairly med-wide foot, and after foot surgery, I had a little trouble getting one boot on, (the tongue is mostly attached probably to keep the elements out, and the rougher inside makes it hard to slip on with regular socks), but once I changed from crew socks to a nylon knee sock, these babies slipped right on There is plenty of toe wiggle room...I am wearing them around the house to break them in a bit first, but I really don't anticipate any problem.., they are pretty wearable right now.. I was like a little kid in a candy store when these arrived, along with another pair of Fryes that I ordered from Zappos(Harness in Lilac)...I have been waiting 25 years to find Fryes again and I am not disappointed... thank you Zappos for your great service and what a selection you always have, with good prices to boot (no pun intended)!!!!!

Awesome - I recently found these on sale in black. But they only had them available in a men's size 9. I usually wear an 11 womens. Anyway I went ahead and took a chance. I couldn't tell any difference in the sizing. Love this boot, great walking heel, perfect size, exceptional quality as always with Frye. Zappo's excellent web site to shop for shoes!
