The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These boots are beautiful, but they didn't fit me. I'm usually an 8, and I occasionally wear an 8.5. I ordered an 8 in these boots and they pinched my feet terribly. I think the height of the toe box is low. I have Frye Lindsay Plate in an 8 and they fit perfectly. Both pairs have the same sole length, but the Jet boots are still too small.

These are what you expect from Frye...beautiful and comfortable. I usually wear 8 1/2 in Frye boots and these are no different. They run more roomy in the toe box and width. I have a collection of Frye boots. Thank you Zappos!

I'd also recommend: UGG

I just love these boots. They are comfortable, very comfortable. I have flat feet and have tendinitis and I don't need supports for these boots. In fact this is about my third pair of boots by Frye and all of them are just as comfortable. You will not be disappointed. Oh yeah, I purchased the plum color. Happy riding or walking whatever the case may be.

I'd also recommend: Old Gringo, Cole Haan(sp) and other boots from my travels,

This is a beautiful boot and I so wanted to love them but they killed my feet. The leather is very stiff and the toe area is narrow and the heel area is wide and slips. The top of the boot was not comfortable either it smacks against your leg in an uncomfortable way. This made them impossible to wear with dresses or skirts or even thinner leggings. For reference I have very slim calves so maybe that's why that happened. My toe area is medium to slightly wide and my ankles are slim. I usually take a 9 in boots and that's what I took in these. But the color is beautiful, I got the charcoal brush off. The sole is nice non slip and sturdy. Also, the leather on the inside of the boot was very stiff as well. Beautiful boot, impossible to wear.
