Oh how I coveted a pair of Frye boots!! I finally convinced my husband to gift me a pair for my birthday this year. I went to the Frye boot store in Chicago so I could try on all the different styles that appealed to me. This pair were not even on my radar!!! However after trying on several different styles I was disappointed. Yes, they were all beautiful boots and well made, but not one of them that I had been looking at screamed "I'm an expensive, fabulous boot". Then the sales person suggested I give these a try. I figured what the heck, I'd tried on all the others. Oh My Goodness! Now THIS is a pair of boots! They are stunning on and there is certainly no dismissing these beauties for just another pair of boots. They command attention and they get it!! Yes, there is a break in time but I'm told that is the case with most all Frye boots. It took me a few weeks of some thick sock wearing and some mink oil to condition and soften and stretch out the leather. Now they fit well and I love them!! The only thing I wish was different was that the heel was smaller because that's the only thing that keeps me from being able to wear them for a full 8 hour work shift. I would say if you're thinking about it...DO IT!

I'd also recommend: pikolinos, dansko

I have an almost impossible time finding boots that fit my "athletic calves." Let's just call them what they are. Big. Approximately 17-18" and with the buckle loosened these fit. If you have skinny legs, these will likely slouch a lot for you. Stylish. Many compliments with each wear. I adore them. I had one blister situation on my right heel the first time I wore them but now a couple of weeks in. No problem. (Just wear some moleskin until they break in.) My only regret is I should have ordered a half size smaller like my other Frye boots.

Love! These boots are worth every penny! Fit was good right out of the box, no break in needed like my other Frye's. Lots of room for leggings, jeggings, boot socks, etc. Did I mention gorgeous?! Cognac color is rich, studs are not to flashy and the distressing is spot on. Simply Perfection!

Gorgeous boots! I have 5 pairs of Fryes, they are my favorite brand of boots. These are unique with the studs on the shaft. The leather is substantial. I ordered a size 9 and they seem to fit true to size. I found these boots to be ideal for inclement winter weather. The soles aren't leather, and aren't slick like my other Fryes. I have had mine for about a year now. Looking forward to cooler weather so I can wear these.

There is a small breaking in period with these boots. They're going to feel amazing when you first get them, but you might think, "Oh this boot feels larger, this boot feels smaller", or these "Feel too loose, too tight." In truth, the boots will ultimately fit to your feet. I had a period where I thought that the heel slipping was going to kill me, and that I'd have to return them, but after slowly working them into my regular boot position, my heel no longer slips and these have fully broken into my feet. I've had mine a couple of winters now, and I will say, these are the only boots that I have that look and feel like they're worth more than the high price tag. I've thought about selling them on the after-market a couple of times just to clear out my collection and every time, the same thing, "I can't get rid of these!" typically coupled with a jealous clutching. If my house was on fire and I could only grab/throw on one pair of shoes, these are it. Every time I wear them, I get compliments out the door and after repeated conditioning and patient wearing, the shaft is beginning to get the perfect slouch. When the top buckle is opened, they will fold down and if you're persistent with conditioning, this will become easier with time. I wear them in the winter with thick socks and in the summer with thin socks and they have never disappointed me. Just remember, break them in slow and you will have boots that will last you a lifetime and more. I might have a heavy step, but when I walk, I always feel a bit like Clint Eastwood with the sure-footed sound these have each time the boot heel meets the floor. The downside of these is honestly, the studs. The studs make conditioning the shaft a very arduous task, but it's worth doing at least 1-3 times a year. The other downside is the studs again, they will snag long fringy things, like scarves. I make silk-sari scarves and in the cooler months when I wear them, they tend to get caught up against the studs. Since the scarves are meant to look tattered, that doesn't bother me so much, but I do have to pull a lot of thread out of the studs. On another note about the studs, they're in there. They're not glued on and they will probably not fall out and despite their greedy habits with loose threads, they make this boot and probably bring 9/10's of the attention you're going to get when you wear these, aside from looking like a total babe, of course.
