I really wanted to like this boot, but I'm going to return it. I don't know if I'm too short for these (5'5), but they looked like swashbuckling boots on me. Also, the style elements just don't come together and the buckles look strange and the lace tied at the top looks out of place.

This is a fantastic boot. Zappos photo and color are accurate and the boot looks even better in person and on your feet. The laces let you customize the fit, and the full zipper makes on and off easy. I have small/thin calves and didn't have to pull the laces tight to get a nice fit over jeans. Might be a bit of a tight fit for very athletic calves, but the laces do allow quite a bit of adjustment. These fit just about like my other Frye boots. I usually wear a 6.5 in other shoes, but I size down to a 6 with Fryes, and the 6 in this style fit perfectly with a regular sock. The boot is constructed of substantial leather, so it is a bit stiff out of the box, but I think it will break in quickly. The finish has a waxy white appearance which I liked on this boot since it has a more rugged appearance, but I'm curious to see how it wears with use. I think these will become favorites!

As cool as these look, if you're 5'5 or smaller, these are not the boots for you. They also run a full size smaller.

this was a pretty boot but way too much boot for me and I'm 5'8 seems like it would be very comfortable. I did walk around in it.Zappos is the best for buying and if you need to for returning items.

Incredible quality. These boots will last forever. I get a ton of compliments. Very comfortable and my feet never hurt after a long day wearing them. They are definitely worth the money as far as the quality of leather and workmanship. They were a little tight in the calf, but the ties adjust for any calf size.

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Beautiful boot, great quality. The calf is not as narrow as I thought so and the boot feels a lot shorter than 16". I ordered 1/2 size smaller.
