The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

After wearing the Frye James non-wingtip in black every day for a month I double-splurged to get the James Wingtip in tan. Love them both. I wear the black ones with black pants and the tan wingtips with blue jeans and, frankly, that's about all I wear. I rely on customer reviews to get a sense of comfort and fit so I thought I should post a review too. I love these shoes. Very cute, very comfortable, very well-made. Very 'menswear' and very cool. I either wear a 7.5 or 8 but definitely a 7.5 in these, even with wool socks. I've had lots of shoes with sneakery soles over the years, and I'm enjoying the switch to something with a little click when I walk.

Beautiful color and look, but way too narrow for my medium to wide foot. I usually wear a medium width, but these were impossible in the toe box. Had to return them, would have loved to keep them, but it would have been pain all the way.

Absolutely love this shoe! Just got them an hour ago and I'm already planning outfits with them. I typically wear a 8.5-9 size shoe, ordered the 8.5 after I read some of the reviews and they fit great. Really nicely made, as is everything Frye makes. Looks like a smaller version of a man's wingtip. If you like this style don't hesitate to purchase.

I love these. They are instantly comfortable and so very cool. I love how they look with skinny jeans. They're a generous fit. I am between 8.5 and 9 the 8.5 is more than adequate. I can wear the 8.5 with a nice knit sock. Great look, not a girlie version of a man's shoe, it's the real deal. Highly recommend!

These shoes are ultra cool. They are serious black wingtips with a vintage vibe. They are very substantial shoes with serious quality so you can count on wearing them for years to come, and they are a classic, too.

I ordered these in "Ocean." The shoes seem very well made, and the blue is pretty. But the light colored sole/border around the shoe makes my feet look a lot bigger than they do in dark shoes with black soles.
