I just received these last week and they are great looking. I do not lace them all of the way to the top and they seem more comfortable that way. Have had many compliments on them. Great boot! I think I will be buying the brown ones as well!

I love these boots. They looks great! They are comfortable but I will say the leather is very hard! I am slowly trying to break them in but my heels are getting a serious beating. I know once they are broken in they will be a great boot.

Wow! These are some really fine boots! I hesitated to try these as the color is stated at dark brown. I was pleased to see them in person to be a medium taupe, beautiful color, with dark brown only on the toe and heel sections. The fit is right on and even a little generous. They feel and look wonderful! Zappos, when doing the videos of the shoes, please show the colors, rather than black, as you can see the detail so much better and then see more what the colors really look like! Would be so helpful!

Frye makes a great quality boot, but sometimes I have issues getting the right fit. I normally wear an 8 1/2 - in Frye, an 8 - but the toe is so long on this boot, I even tried a 7 1/2. The toe was okay in the smaller size, but I ran into size issues elsewhere. Sigh - I guess I have to give up on this style.

I have never gotten size 8 1/2 but these required it. I do have a high instep and because of this there is very little lace to tie at the top, since the lace up space needs to be larger. They are stylish and comfortable but are not what I would call walking boots. People complement them because they are different; they have a bit up a dress up look wearing with slacks.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I love this boot. Great quality and so good looking, just what you'd expect from a Frye boot! I've only gotten to wear them a couple of times, so they're not completely broken in yet, so I'm looking forward to that.

I like them, but not as much as I thought I would. They are more masculine than anticipated and gave the back of heel a blister on first wearing. I believe that as I break them in I will like them better and the blister problem will disappear.

As with most Frye boots, these do require some break in time. These were actually pretty quick to break in and they look and feel just great. There's kind of a broken in/vintage look to them as well which I really like. Can't have too many pairs of black boots!

This boot is awesome! The style, look, and now that I have broken them in, the feel. I have gotten lots of complements on them. I wear an 8-8 1/2 so I decided to go for the 8 1/2 I think the 8 would have been too small. Make sure to break them in before a long night of wearing out. They feel tight on the heel at first but Now they are perfect!

Love this boot; however, my instep is high and that's not a good fit for me. Hate sending them back. They are beautiful. Boo hoo.

The boots arrived almost a month ago and I think I'm still breaking them in. They are so stylish! I'm used to wearing hiking boots or sneakers, so the smooth boot-sole was new to me; I have to walk carefully when it's wet out. I treated the pair with Nikwax for water-resistance, and- understandably- the leather darkened from pale brown to a typical boot brown. The antiqued treatment is interesting, but I don't mind losing it (I'm sorry, Frye artisans; that effect probably took a lot of hard work). I like the laces, which were stiff at first but now are pliable. I expect to be quite comfortable in them by next year. I'm so pleased with this purchase and with Zappos' mediation (web site navigation, prompt shipping). As long as you look after your feet and anticipate blisters, the breaking-in friction won't be so bad.

These boots are extremely cool looking. If I had a ton of money, based on looks only, I'd buy them in every color. I'd also buy them at least a half size down because they were huge (I can't understand that nearly 70% of people found these “True to Size.” ; ) Also, I'm not sure how comfortable these are going to be. Not much arch support or cushioning. I had to send them back for size, so I haven't worn them for more than a minute or two.

Good Frye quality but not for me. The antique look on this particular pair looked a bit too much like white airbrushing for my taste. Perhaps it was just this pair, but I was hoping it would look a little more subtle. Pretty flat insole without padding, unlike my Frye Carson boots, clogs and lace-ups which are very comfortable. So these are going back.

I love this boot! As with all Frye boots it takes some breaking-in. On first wear they are tight across the top of the foot, but within a few wearings they mold to the feet beautifully and become very comfortable. The leather quality is exceptional, although I didn't care for the antique finishing, but it was easily removed with polish. The sole is slick so I added a piece of tape to the bottom of each boot which solved the problem until the sole scuffed.

I love these shoes. Order a half size smaller; they do run large. They are pretty and hip and stylish. They are heavy shoes, so it'll take a while to break them in, but they should last a lifetime.

These shoes came in a couple days ago, and they weren't exactly what I expected, but they're great, nonetheless. The vintage look of it looks too carefully done, which looks strange, but it wears off. The day after I wore these boots, I noticed small bruises around the back of my leg, but other than this, they were extremely comfortable. Overall, these boots are amazing.

I loved the look of this boot online. In person, I was dismayed at how huge it looked, and I wear and ordered a 5.5! It also ran very large. I'm sorry it didn't work out, was really hoping to keep this pair of Fryes.

I was delighted to receive this boot in 24 hours after I placed the order. I read all the reviews and it seemed that about 50% said it runs large and 50% said it runs true to size, so I ordered my true size 9 only to find that it runs a good l/2 size too large at least. It's beautifully made as Frye boots usually are but it looked ridiculous on my foot. It looked like I was wearing a large man's boot. Sadly, I had no choice but to return it.
