Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Great shoe and great service from Zappos! I ordered a size too large and Zappos sent me another size, the next day! Dealing with their customer service was actually an enjoyable experience! The shoes are great as well! Stylish and comfortable! Worth the price!

This boot appears well-made. Although it requires breaking in, I found it remarkably comfortable out of the box for a leather-soled shoe. Chukkas often run long. I wear a 10 and have a medium width foot. On advice from a call to Frye, I ordered a 9 1/2 and have found the fit spot on. The tan antique leather comes with a musty powder sort of finish that I chose to remove by polishing with a cloth. I would imagine that the finish would wear off with time in any event.

These shoes are everything they were advertised to be. They are high quality and comfortable. It is great to know that there are still products being crafted and sold that meet or exceed one's expectations! These shoes do run a tad on the large side. I learned this from another review before I ordered. I normally wear a size 11 so I ordered half a size smaller and they fit perfectly. The width is normal.

Don't be a duck-a, buy the Frye Chukka. They are way cool, fit well, and are very easy to restore to new with a brass bristle brush. Took these dogs to the UK, and they were smashing. Price was fair too. I actually visited Church Shoes and bought a pair of oxfords . . . quite a few pound sterling . . . worth it, but their chukka is not a nice and cost more than Frye's. That kind of money can keep you from the gallows pole . . . in other words Zappos can't be beat.
I'd also recommend: Ecco, Johnston & Murphy

If you are someone who doesn't like paying too much for things, then you don't have to worry about these shoes. All the bang for the buck. The leather is top quality, the stitching is top quality, and they are comfortable! Short break in period.
