The shoes are very heavy with a thick tread. There is no inner padding--which reduces comfort--but it's very stylish and well-made.

The leather on the sole is only dyed on the surface so the sides, heel, and front of the shoe scuff very easily and is clearly seen against the darker color of the uppers.

These are great looking shoes. I ordered them in a size 10 to wear in my wedding which is my general size. I ended up in a size 9 which Zappos was more than accommodating in making sure I had the right size. The sole has added traction with the rubber sole which is something that I was looking for and needed to accommodate for the harsh weather of my area. The shoes will take some time to break in but I am excited to know that I will have these for a long time to come.

Styling is basic and traditional for the most part. Extra heel height adds some flair. The leather on these (and other Frye shoes I have tried - particularly the Phillip oxford) is extremely soft - wraps the foot like a soft glove. Very comfortable out of the box. Quality construction with the sole and upper is evident. The sole feels very solid and durable. Insole is comfortable soft leather. As for sizing, my foot measures as a 10 C, but I found that the 9.5 works best with this Jackson oxford and with the Phillip oxford. The heel is a bit taller than your average oxford, which adds some flair.

Just got these, so my review cannot attest to durability. Out of the box these are telltale Frye quality. The leather is supple and the quality very apparent. Slightly higher heel than some could expect, though to me this adds a bit of style, especially in a size 13 (I'm 6'2). Typical Frye foot form, i.e. long and 'narrowish' - perfect for people with relative low volume feet. I intend to wear these for 'business casual' but it should be noted that the leather is not quite as shiny as may be required in more formal wear. These are no-nonsense quality shoes that actually look a lot better on your feet than they do off your feet. Masculine, stylish, yet built tough. I'm giving them 4 stars for style, simply because they are so simple by design, but that's what I like about them. I ordered the black and the brown, as well as the suedes, which look incredible!
Brands I'd also recommend: Kenneth Cole New York, Calvin Klein, Alled Edmonds

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.
