Years ago had a pair of Frye boots, loved them. Came home one night to find out that wife had thrown them out (apparently she didn't like them). She soon became ex wife. Skip to present, mid life crisis, decided to buy myself another pair of Frye boots, chose the Jackson inside zip. Very comfortable. I wear a size 9.5, sometimes 10, and with these the 9's fit very well, so I do agree with others who say they run a little large. Have a heel insert in and the fit is perfect. Boots very well made, look good with jeans, could also wear them to work. Very happy with my purchase. And most important my (current) wife of 24 years loves them and thinks they look awesome.

I ordered these boots a while ago, and have owned them for almost a year now. The first thing I notice with these boots when I got them was the styling I loved the look of the buckles and the feel of the leather definitely up to par. With boots I always like to get a 8½W, sadly most dress shoes do not come in a wide. I ordered the 8½ and as I had feared and slightly expected it was narrow, most leathers stretch and I expected this to happen so I did not mind. However for wearing these constantly for 10 hours minimum three days a week it took much longer then expected. I would recommend if you wear a wide to simply size up ½ for the added immediate comfort. I picked these shoes for the reason that they had the rubberized under. I expected to have a better grip when walking and more durability overall. Working at the airport I come across countless different floors: carpets, tiles, tarmac, concrete, to metal graded stairs. While the under was very durable the metal graded stairs did take a toll on stitching and after a year a portion has come lose (the stitching is simply decoration as the under are glued to the upper.) One of the unders has come unglued at the front as well. Something I actually was worried about and with reason was about the upper the leather is soft and will scuff and scratch every easily against surfaces and corners. So while my work is rather tough on the shoes I had still expected a better longevity from them for the price I paid. Simply put These are a great stylish shoes. They are true to the size and comfort is great, if you wear a wide size up ½ as they will be tight otherwise but they will stretch if you to stretch them. If you do a lot of walking and moving around on several different types of surfaces the under will take it but for expended periods of time the boots will wear out much faster then expected. The upper scuffs every easily so be careful. For those that have to occasionally need to me in a rough work industry I don't recommend them to you for its price not worth it. One year and I need a new pair of dress boots.

I am a very picky boot buyer. I like a sturdy boot, that fits snug but is also flexible enough to do a lot of walking in. On top of that I like a basically classic no frills boot design. Finally, I travel a lot and it needs to be easy to take on and off in the airport. This is a winner on all accounts. This is well made, light for an engineer boot, with a little more of a western toe than some English boots.

These boots are classic; however, you may need to order a second time over as sadly, Frye has been bought out by another company in the recent past and now outsources their manufacturing - so defects are rampant. I went through two, yes two pairs before finding one without defects. I had to order one from Zappos, then send it back to Frye so that Frye could hand pick one from the warehouse that is perfect and free from abnormalities. That said, everything about this boot is styled nicely, and the full grain leather/Goodyear welt construction is awesome. I put that it is true to size because with these boots, you want to order a full size smaller, add Frye brand conditioning leather (not mink oil, it will ruin it), and then wear it in. Your boot will conform to your foot like a glove, after a little discomfort. Can't find anything in this price-point that speaks of late 1880's to early 1900's American-esque style without looking like I own a ranch, so these are right on point.

Left foot, big toe, has worn a hole through the inside foot liner. Thought that it was my sock making my foot feel funny, until I took a closer look and discovered a hole. Really surprised me, as the boots are not that old, and very lightly worn, actually like new condition. Love the style, feel, look, comfort, etc. Although, not what I would expect from Frye, had considered buying another pair in black?

Breaks in relatively quickly and comfortable. Relatively true to size (I'm a 9.5) but runs on the narrow side, especially through the ball of the foot. I love the color of the leather, but have found it extremely prone to absorbing water and causing permanent water spots. I've treated using the Frye boot dressing/conditioning cream on this page but haven't had much luck. It does darken the color slightly and add some gloss to the leather. Being a hiker, I've also tried some Nikwax Waterproofing Wax For Leather which worked better than the Frye product, but still seems to need re-applying every couple of months of light use. I'd love to hear if anyone else is having better luck with a different sealing product. Overall handsome design, nice leather, but annoying to have to constantly worry about whether it's going to rain or not.
