The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I just got these. They are my first pair of Fryes and I think they look and feel great. I have high arches and usually have to wear arch supports. These shoes, however, have that built in, which is nice. The shoes feel true to size if you like a slightly snug fit.

I'd also recommend: Timberland, Clarks

These shoes exceed my expectations. I was tired of wearing around athletic shoes with my jeans so I looked for a pair that would be comfortable studying long hours in and walking around on campus in less than ideal weather. Additionally, I wanted a shoe that was lightweight, looks cool but not too much of a dress shoe or overly trendy. I had a tough time finding a pair that matched what I was looking for something casual for everyday use but dressy enough. Paired with my favorite smart wool socks, these things have been so comfortable. And the sole makes you ninja quiet.

Finally bought a pair of Frye after my wife kept telling me I'd love them, and she was right! Extremely comfortable right away, look great for use with jeans / chinos, great leather smell. I'm sure they'll become one of my favorites!

The Frye Hudson Oxford is by far the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. I am not sure if it the unbelievably soft sole that makes me feel like I am walking on a cloud or the rich fragrance of leather that I smell every time I remove (unfortunately) these shoes, but these are becoming my favorite go to pair of shoes. While they are not made in the USA (which is why I usually buy FRYE) they are still quality shoes made in Mexico. Honestly, I do not have any complaints regarding the shoes at all. And, of course, Zappos is amazing with everything (shipping, unbelievable customer service, and the like). Just buy these shoes now and thank me later.

I'd also recommend: Frye, L.L. Bean, Vintage Shoe Company
