As with any pair of Frye boots, these are very well made. These are quite high and come up to just below the knee. The shaft is such that you can wear jeans either over or tucked into them. The leather was somewhat stiff but the break in time was minimal. The no skid sole will be great when the weather turns cold.

Don't let the high price tag scare you away from purchasing this beautiful pair of boots. The quality and craftsmanship is unbeatable. You will have these boots for a lifetime. I purchased the bordeaux color and couldn't be happier. It's a rich, beautiful wine/brown leather without screaming "here I come in my red boots." A truly neutral, luxurious shade that looks great with black gray or brown. I especially love them over a pair of dark washed jeans. The elastic gusset is fairly hidden and allows enough stretch to wear over tights, leggings or jeans. My calves are medium - athletic, but they would also fit thin calves. The leather is heavy and thick enough to stand up on their own. The square toe is the same as my favorite Frye harness boots, but the heel and shaft is a bit more riding boot style. The perfect, timeless mix. I'm 5'8" tall and the boots come to just below my knee. As with all Frye boots, they take a bit of breaking in time, but it's well worth it. Frye boots are a true investment, I'll be wearing these for years.

Love these boots! I have owned a pair of Frye boots (Campus zip) for 10 years and they still look great. My only regret has been that they are too short to wear with skirts, so I finally decided to buy another pair of Frye's. I expect I will still be wearing these in 10 years, so they are worth the investment. They have the same sturdy construction as my Campus boots. The leather is not soft, so they don't collapse at the ankle even though they are not tight. These boots are tall; I am 5'9", and they come right to the bend of my knees. Also, I think they run narrow. My feet are a little narrow and I ordered my usual size 9 and they fit perfectly with thin socks. If your feet are wider, ordering up a half-size would probably take care of it.

These are impossible to get on! And I have super skinny legs too! Neither me or any of my roommates could get out feet all the way into them. I guess with leather you really have to break them in, but I don't have the patience. They should fit right the first time. So cute though.

I don't understand the review below. I have pretty muscular, athletic calves and the boots went on just fine without any trouble. I didn't even have to use the straps to get them on; my feet just go in. In general, these are great boots. The shaft is a little unusual and kind of has a Hunter rain boot feel. But the leather isn't slouchy (just as I wanted) and is softer than it looks in the picture. I got these boots in cognac which looks great with everything. I've only worn them once so far and my day started off fine, but my feet were in a bit of pain by the end of the day -- likely because the toe box is a bit narrow. Overall, though, I'm happy with my purchase. I have flat feet that can't bear really hard soles, and the soles of these boots were surprisingly comfortable. There was way more give than I anticipated. I bought a 9 and they feel true to size -- even though one of my feet is 1/2 size bigger than the other.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

This is a very lovely boot but it's just too tall for me. The top kept hitting the bend at the back of my knee whenever I tried to walk up or down a staircase. I am a petite woman --just shy of 5'3"--so I am sure this is the problem.

I'm 5'5" and these boots were too tall on me - they go all the way up to my knee and it looks awkward on. Other than that, the boots are great leather, light (contrasting with the campus harness boots which I have and are very heavy) and comfy. Too bad, wish they were a bit shorter!

The typical worry with high boots is if they will fit your calf. My calves are pretty big, usually tight with knee-high boots, but fit perfectly in these boots! The grey-brown is more brown than grey, but they are super gorgeous.
