Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These boots are sick. Stylish as hell and built to last - you won't be disappointed. Be aware, however, that as with all Frye products the sizing can be a bit tricky. I normally wear a size 9 and tried on both a 9 and an 8.5 before deciding on the 8.5 size - they felt a bit snug on my feet at first but with some thin socks and a little wear they'll be perfect. The 9's were a bit big, so although I cannot speak for everyone I'd suggest looking into a half size smaller than you normally wear. Otherwise, these boots are a no brainer. Sure, they're expensive, but the first thing someone notices about a man are his shoes, so why not make an investment?

After deciding to upgrade my casual shoe wardrobe these are my second style of Frye boots and they do not disappoint. I think the leather quality, fit, and finish are all first rate and commensurate with the price. I wear a 10-1/2 and the boots are true to size, the brown boot has a bit of red to it almost slightly like a cordovan. This model is a bit dressier than say a James boot with a slightly thinner sole and heel. They have a good shaft height and the outside zip is unique. I modified the heel height an added a 1/4" rubber heel pad. Otherwise the boot looks great with khakis, jeans, or cords. I have received compliments on the boots and am asked where they were purchased. I was tired of getting cheap shoes so for a well made boot that will last and stay in style this is a great choice.

I was nervous about spending this much on some boots that I might not wear that much. I am not a boot person normally, but have always liked the look on a few celebrities. However, when I have tried on boots at the store they always looked too bulky or the heal was too big. These boots are a keeper though. These are what I think a boot should look like. They are sleek with a low profile, that doesn't make me look like I am trying to pretend I'm an urban cowboy. I bought the black because I thought they were a little more subtle and when you notice the quality of the leather, you have to take a double take. Also I liked how they fit closer to my calf. These don't get caught on my pants legs, like Andy Griffith in Mayberry. Come on I know that bugged everyone also. I'm a 9.5 and these fit a little lose but correct length, so I places my favorite foot inserts in and they are perfect.I think a 9 would be too small. If you don't buy these boots than it will just make mine seem a little more special but these are worth the purchase. Hope that helps some.

I received the Frye Harvey boots in the mail yesterday and immediately liked the look and feel. The leather is pliable and when I put them on the fit was perfect, exactly true to size. Although they are not inexpensive, they actually looked and felt like they should have cost more. These boots have a great balance between sole thickness, toe height and overall contour. They look substantial, like boots should, but they are not bulky or blocky looking. Since they have an overlay on the toe, the fact that the line is straight and cut the same on both boots is great. If anyone is looking for a pair of boots for casual dress, or to wear with jeans, this is the boot.
