This is my 5th pair of Frye boots and I love them all. I have worn these with tights and a knit dress and leather vest and gotten many compliments. They are true to size and were comfortable all day on the second wearing!

Love these boots! They do run big though. I wear a 7 in all the other Frye boots I have, including the Harness 12R W, but for these, the 6.5 fits the same as the 7. And I wear regular socks with them. Thicker socks would probably give me blisters. The first 5 wears or so, getting them on and off was a bit of a challenge, but it gets easier as they break in more and more. They'll last forever and I know they'll always be in style. Don't recommend getting them wet, though. I got caught wearing the 12R W's in a downpour and they were so heavy on my feet as I was walking because the leather was soaked!

These boots are beautiful and made with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. They make any pair of jeans or boot cut pants look absolutely wow on. They look dressy and chic until you sit down and cross your legs to expose the strap of the boot which reveals your edgy side and shows a bit of personality! I believe they run fairly true to size, but if you like to wear thicker socks for winter, or you use orthotics, then I would order up a size. I normally wear an 8 1/2 and I ordered the 9s because I prefer warm socks with my orthotics. Plenty of support and springy insoles!

Love the Frye Harness boots! They are very comfortable, which was noted by other reviewers as I was considering the purchase. I needed a new pair of black boots for winter and I found the ones I was looking for.

These are great boots! I read all the previous reviews about ordering a half-size or size down. I usually wear an 8. Ordered both an 8 and a 7.5. Went with the 7.5. The boots were comfortable from the get go. Boot advice from a Texan: the trick to breaking in any kind of boots, they can be motorcycle, cowboy, s to wear them around the house at night after your feet have swelled, then they are comfortable all day when your foot is normal size.

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These boots are so cool looking. They take some time to break in though, so only wear them for short periods of time at first. Maybe thicker socks are in order. I normally wear a 9 and I took an 8 in this shoe.

Love the look, just couldn't make them fit right. First I ordered a size 8 (my normal size). It was a bit of a struggle to get them on, and once I did they were just way too big; too much room in the toe area and they slipped a lot at the heel. So I ordered a 7.5. They were so hard to get on! I literally struggled for about 10 minutes. When I finally did get them on, they seemed to fit, but they did slip a lot in the heel. After wearing them around the house a few times to try and break them in, I realized they just weren't going to work. I had the same 10 minute struggle to get them on each time, then struggled to get them off. Plus the arch of my right foot always hurt when I tried to walk around in them. Sadly, I had to give up and return them.

If you have a high arch or instep, these boots are not for you. I ordered a 7, my usual size, but I could not slide my foot into the shoe. They are great boots, but not for everyone!!

Wow. Great service from Zappos (again). I originally ordered the Frye Harness 8RW in a size 9.5M because I had a pair of Frye Engineer boots (also from Zappos) in that size. Well, the Harness must run big, so I called Zappos customer service and they rushed me a size 9M. Perfect. Comfy. Great look. The ONLY problem is that they pull my sweat sock into the boot as I walk. Nevertheless, it's the all-American boot. And I did my research: I wanted boots MADE IN THE U.S.A. Great job to everyone at Zappos!

My other boots to live in - I bought these in brown last year and love to wear them so much that I often found myself changing out of black clothing so that I could wear my Frye Harness boots. I have many pairs of cute but lower quality black boots, but none are as comfy and durable as my Fryes. I finally broke down and bought these in black so I can wear the other half of my wardrobe. These boots suit my "sexy refined tomboy" style perfectly and I can't wait until they are beaten up and broken in as beautifully as my brown ones. A little narrow for my wide feet at first but the black ones seem to soften and mold to my feet even faster than the brown ones did. This kind of quality is worth every penny.

I live in my Frye Belted Harness boots, but with the warm months coming I splurged on the lower version. They don't have the buckle and a more Western heel than my other pair, so they are different enough...and lighter in weight. Already I love them as much as the taller version. They're still at that stiff stage having arrived today and don't yet have the battered, broken-in character that my taller ones do, but I know that in a few days of wear they'll soften up and conform to my foot. As with my other Frye boots, I went a half-size down and added a pair of gel arch supports, so now I can stride into summer in comfort and classic, rugged style. As always, Zappos service was a delight. The boots arrived so quickly that one of these days I'm sure my order will arrive the second I click "Confirm."

Frye Harness Boots - These are very good looking boots, very comfortable and easy to break in. I wore them the first time and they were great, no blisters or sore spots, which is pretty great. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is they do fit a bit loose in the heel so you have to try different socks to remedy that. You should definitely order a 1/2 size down from your regular size.

Great boots - Although other reviewers, and even the Frye web site said that the boot runs large, I found them to be exactly true to size. They were slightly stiff the first wearing, but each time I put them on, they feel more comfortable and are breaking in very nicely. I think I will be wearing these boots for a very long time. They look sharp, too. Tailored, not clunky.

No Substitutes! This is the boot that others imitate! The Frye Harness is the real thing, though. Excellent quality, feel and style. When pants cover the harness itself, it looks like a dress boot, but has the functionality that a dress boot doesn't. It is on the narrow side; I have a wide foot and still need to get it professionally stretched a bit (because I don't want to wait to wear them enough to stretch), but need the smaller size for the heel to not slip too much. It has to slip a bit to get on/off, yet shouldn't too much if you use them as motorcycle boots. I've wanted these since I was a little girl and saw the older boys wearing them - so cool! I'm going to get the tan boots next; they look like a well seasoned boot without being worn out.

A great birthday present! I love these boots! I found that I needed 1/2 size smaller than usual, but the width was great for my high instep and wide feet. They are extremely comfortable and cool looking! They are nice and sturdy with a good sole that even has some traction in light snow.

These boots are fantastic and as always Zappos was great! They do fit a little big so I would order a half size down. I'm usually an 8.5 and I ordered the 8.5 boot (they didn't have an 8 in stock). It's a little big, but with thick socks it's fine. It only took one day of wearing them to break them in. They are the most comfortable shoes I own! Love, love, love them.

Great Boot -- Great Buy! This is a truly sexy boot. Looks amazing and the fit is very comfy. Thank goodness for Zappos and all of your reviews as I normally wear a 9 in Frye boots and I got 8.5 in these (as many of you noted that they run a bit large). The fit is great. I have 2 other pairs of Frye Harness boots, both of them with a higher shaft and putting these side by side the 8.5 in this shorter version looks the same length as the 9 in the higher. Very odd but whatever, I'm in love. I got them super quick as usual with Zappos and I'm wearing them today with a long skirt – they rock. As does Zappos!!!

OUCH!!! These boots will take a lot of breaking into. I think once they are broken in they will be a great boot...until then my feet will be aching. I would order a 1/2 size smaller.

Frye Harness 8R - This is one of the best pairs of boots I have owned. They look nice new, but once they weather and get beat up a little, they look awesome. As with most leather boots, they take breaking in. Once you do, they are very comfortable and do not fatigue the feet. They are a tad loose at the heel, but it appears to be by design. They feel a tiny tiny bit larger than marked.

Beautiful boots - I love them. They are more comfy than I expected and did not need too much break in time. Heel is a little hard to get into boot but once in the fit is comfortable. A beautiful and substantial boot.
