I needed nice boots that I could wear to work, walk, and stand in for long periods of time and preferably ones that didn't look like alien space boots. Out of the box they are amazing! I've worn them daily since I bought them. You might need to break them in a bit before taking a long walk. While very comfortable, they are a little looser in feel than a tie-up shoe. Part of the slip-on nature, I guess. And they are not waterproof. I wore them one day during a downpour and my feel were damp (not soaking) when I got home. I fluctuate between a 10-11 depending on the maker and these definitely fit me as a size 10. (I tried on 10 1/2 and way too big.) Style-wise, these are great too. Timeless, with just a little bit of attitude. Really, you can't go wrong! And lastly, thanks to Zappos customer service. When I exchanged the 10 1/2s, the 10s were in my hands the next day. Amazing!

Outstanding service, Zappos shipped even faster than I expected. I have some 8r harness in old town brown as well. The brown distressed leather look a lot better and get noticed more, but these black 8rs will match more of your clothes. A little pricey, but these are honestly the best boots I've ever owned.

I bought these to wear while riding my motorcycle. I was previously wearing work boots. The Frye boots have a much better profile for riding, especially with respect to getting under the gear shift lever. Plus, they just look cool. Most of my other shoes are size 12 US, but the Frye 12 was too small for me - both in length and width. I exchanged them for size 13, which is just right. I was totally impressed with the exchange process - Zappos sent the new boots promptly without waiting for the first ones to get back to them.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

My size wasn't in stock so I went with the comment that said to order 1/2 size smaller. I'm glad that I did! The boots fit quite well and are comfortable out of the box. I walked the dogs right after putting them on for the first time and had no discomfort. They look great and give the impression of high quality.

Very nice boot. Order 1/2 size smaller. I was looking for a good motorcycle boot with no laces and saw the many positive reviews about this boot. I'm glad I decided to buy it, because the boots arrived today and they are money! Fit and finish is excellent. It exudes quality. As I will ride my Harley, it's too early to tell how the left front instep will hold up to the gear changes over time, but they are sturdy. The toe box is mildly stiff, but if they only get better after break-in, then these will be fantastic. I am also glad I followed the advice of several users by ordering a 1/2 size smaller. Even with a thicker sock they fit really well. The only challenge I'll need to address is that I have really thin heels and my heel comes up a bit. A cup might fix it, but I can deal with it. They are a great purchase. And thanks to Zappos for upgrading my shipping. Got them in 2 days at no upcharge! Classy!

Ordered a size too big, called to exchange at 730 pm last night, dropped them off to be shipped back at 3 in the afternoon today. Returned home and the new pair was already on my porch. Zappos is amazing! The boots are obviously awesome, too.

These boots are fantastic. Since I got them about 6 months ago, they hardly ever leave my feet. They look great, and are very comfortable. They tend to gather dirt after a while, so I advise getting some leather cleaner for them to keep them looking new.

My favorite boots ever! Had a pair of Fender boots that are about to give up the ghost. I've been eying these Frye boots for a few years now and finally broke down and treated myself. They fit well, are comfortable and very sharp.

Simply an Awesome Pair of Boots - Boots are funny. Most are not going to be butter the first time you wear them. However it only took about an hour before my Frye Harness 8R's wrapped around my feet like a pair of comfy socks. I already had a pair of the brown in this style so I was confident that the blacks would fit as well. Frye does not disappoint! I love these boots for their fit and look.

I just received a replacement pair after my first pair lost a heel (Frye replaced the boots at no charge, no questions asked, incidentally), and, having traded in a pair I had been walking around in for over a year for a new, unfamiliar pair, I can sympathize with a lot of the reviewers that are complaining about size and comfort. Truthfully, any initial discomfort will go away after the boots are properly broken in. It may take a couple of days, even a week for the leather to bend and mold to your feet, but after it does, you'll see what I mean. These will become the most comfortable footwear you own.

Great boot, looks cool and feels comfortable - I have been searching for a boot that I can wear to work and also kick around in, these are comfortable and very well made. They rock. I am a jeans and t-shirt guy and these boots look hot.

Best boots ever - This is my second pair of this particular boot in two years. I have a pair in brown and now black, and I have never loved a pair of boots more. They are perfect. I am a hairstylist and I stand all day long, and these never give a minute of grief. I ordered my most recent pair from Zappos.com and received them in less than 30 hours.
Brands I'd also recommend: Am true blue to Frye, and Bed Stu.

My first Frye boot - Was looking for a harness boot and decided to try one of the classics. Super sturdy boot, built like a tank. Runs true to size but pretty roomy (seems maybe wider in the heel than most boots?). To me, it's not very refined, but is fairly versatile. Better for jeans than a suit, for sure. Pretty comfortable, but I have been wearing Blundstones for several years and there is not much that can match them. I look forward to wearing the Fryes for years, as I am sure they will only get better looking and more comfortable with age.
Brands I'd also recommend: Dressier: Varvatos harness. Other Fryes seem similar - bulletproof and heavy.

The last boots you'll ever need? I know these words aren't the ones that a shoe retailer would want to hear, but these may very well be the last boots you'll ever need: They look great (with a pretty timeless look) and go with just about anything, they're quite comfortable (once broken in, see below), and are built like tanks. The sizing seems accurate, and the width seems a bit narrow, which for me works just fine. Bear in mind that they need a bit of breaking in. The first day, my heels were lifting out of them. A day or two later ended with some foot tenderness (no blisters). From there on out, they fit like a dream. Oh, and unless you are used to walking in somewhat raised heels, other shoes are going to feel really weird. Anyhow, the 5 stars I gave across the boards aren't hyperbole...
