I am 5'3" and have a curvy/athletic shape. I normally wear an 8½ and have wide feet and a high instep. I ordered these boots in an 8½ and they were difficult to get into/out of, and were a little too snug at first, but now that a month's worth of wear and tear has taken place, they fit wonderfully! Even though I am short, they look great on me)! They are definitely worth the price!

Always a classic. Just broke the boots out to break in for bike season. I have very thick calves for a shorter gal (5'3"), and these boots, while tight, totally fit. Totally worth the money. My mom and I have a couple pairs, and she's had hers for 8-9 years and they still look like new. The leather will stretch over time, so don't worry about the slight discomfort and tightness! It is worth it! Frye wearer for life, they'll have to bury me in these things.

I was so excited when I received my boots today. I am disappointed that I normally wear a 9½ and a lot of people said down size and get a 9. I wish I would have stuck with my original size. They were too tight in the toes. I am sad because they are so cool looking I am 52 years old I think they would look good on any age. I cannot wait to get my bigger size. Thanks, Zappos.

These are by far the best boots I've ever ordered. The shaft is not too big, the heels aren't going to give me blisters breaking them in, and they have an incredibly tough sole that will not break down anytime soon. I did order a half size smaller, and they fit perfectly.

These are fantastic boots! Not only are they stylish enough to wear with dresses they look equally as well with jeans. The boots are construsted well and will handle our harsh winters. Easy to put on and comfortable to wear make these a new favorite.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Bought them for my daughter. She loves them and they fit true to size. The fact that she didn't return them speaks volumes. I love them and want a pair...but that would be uncool, so I need to find another style. I love Frye boots!

I purchased my regular size 9 in these boots. In general, so many people say to size down in Frye, which I did do with a different pair, but they just don't fit me correctly. I stuck with the 9 and to me these feel true to size. My calves are on the smaller side, but initially these did feel a little snug. With a bit of breaking in, they fit perfectly. Such a beautiful, well-made, high-quality boot. I'm 5'4", although I have longer legs, and these boots fit well. Can't say enough good things about them.

These boots are AWESOME! Gorgeous leather and high-quality craftsmanship Frye is known for. I'm a small girl, 5'6”, 110 lbs and these fit my slender legs well. I love that my calf is not swimming in them. The actual footbed is a bit larger than my other Frye shoes, so I would go down a half size. Simply beautiful boots!

The first thing you need to realize about these boots is that they are real leather and need to be broken-in. They are more like cowboy boots than dress boots you can buy and wear home. I wore them for a couple of hours a day for about a week and now they fit perfectly. I ordered these boots in the Dark Brown Old Town color and the leather is perfect. It already looks broken-in and because the leather is not one uniform color, it goes with brown or black. I wear an 8.5-9 and ordered the 8.5 because the leather does stretch a little as the boots get broken-in. Also, I was worried about the tall boot because I do not have skinny calves, but there is plenty of room in the top of the boot as well.

I wear an 8 Medium and this boot runs true to size. How delighted I am to put them on and they fit from the start. Just a week of breaking-in and they will be perfect. Moderate arch support and the knee high length is perfect for jeans, leggings, and skirts. I AM SO HAPPY I purchased these boots. Got the tan and they match everything. If you are a true size 8, these boots will fit.

These boots are well made and beautiful, but not for me. I'm 5'4 and 130# and these boots look way too tall/bulky. I'm also a size 7 in shoes, medium width, and these boots fit about like an 8 1/2. My biggest complaint was that the shaft of the boot had no tapering through the middle...not a flattering look on such a short gal. These boots would work well for a taller woman. I love Frye and have moved on to the Frye harness 12R instead. Way better look for the vertically challenged. Also! Feel good about ordering from Zappos, my return was lost and I called to learn the status of my refund and was upgraded to VIP status. Really great customer service. I'm telling everyone about Zappos.

I can't wait until fall to start wearing these! I did as most others said and ordered a half size down. This was probably a good idea. I slip slightly in the heel, but then I find it slightly tight across my arch/middle of my foot. Maybe even a little on the narrower side, but not overly so where it's uncomfortable. Since I haven't started wearing them (quite unacceptable in 90 degree weather), I don't know how much they'll stretch, etc. but I'm sure they will be just fine. Also, being summer, my feet are probably a little swollen. It was cool enough to wear jeans the other night so I decided to see how they would work tucked into the boots to get an idea. I have a 14 inch or a little less calf and my skinnies fit into them, so they will also be fine with a little bit of a wider cut as well. I was wearing a thinner sock, but will hopefully stretch them enough to be able to wear a thicker sock come winter. But they're totally worth the investment; I'm in love with them.

Just received these boots and love them! They look great and excellent quality. I was concerned about what size to get, as most reviewers suggested going a size smaller. I usually wear an 8 1/2 or a 9 in shoes, but I have a wide foot, so I went with the 8 1/2 in the boot, and I think it's a good fit. The toe area is a little tight, but I feel it will stretch out a bit with wear. If you have a wide foot, I would not size down, but get your normal shoe size. If you have a narrow foot, go a size down. They are a bit loose in the heal, but that is the nature of the style and I find this the case with my other pair of Frye boots.

I am very happy with my purchase! I took other reviewer's advice and originally ordered the tan half a size down, a size 8, which fit lengthwise but the width was too small, even to try and stretch out with wear. I returned for my true size, 8.5, and the fit is much more comfortable. The shaft is snug on my bare 14.5-15" calves but it should work with jeggings. The leather is great, the rubber sole rugged and non-slip, and the whole boot is awesome Frye quality. They are very comfortable and make me look and feel like a tough girl. I get compliments whenever I wear them, from men and women. Bottom line: true to size, great quality, comfort, and look, and you can't beat Zappos service!

These boots are wonderful. I have a pair of 11 in another color and ordered a 10 because they stretched out so much. After a week of wearing them they are perfect! Can't wait to order another color.

Great quality made boots from the materials to the construction and style. Unfortunately they run more narrow through the calf than the Veronica Slouches. Not quite for me which is too bad because they are so stylish!

Great boot and very comfortable. The size is just right. It mat be difficult to tuck pants inside the boot. Maybe leggings will do better than jeans. They do fit snug around the leg. Just the right height for the longer legged people. Nice color. Looked for it another color which had more of a reddish brown. Happy with this color.

These are beautiful boots, but be aware that it might take a few tries to get the color/size that is right for you. I'm a size 10 and ordered a 9 1/2 as recommended. Although the length was good on my bigger foot, the foot bed was not wide enough, and I tend to have narrow feet. I've ordered a 10, and hope they are not huge, especially since the 9 1/2 fit perfect on my smaller foot. Pregnancy really did a number on my feet.
