Great boot for the most part. However, the first time I wore them, the insole started to crumble apart and wear away at the toes. If that happened after the first wear, I can't imagine what a year's worth of use will do to them. Not acceptable for a pair of boots this expensive. Still, in spite of that, it's an otherwise solid piece of footwear.

Quality of this product seems high. While others state the shoes run true to size, I found they run just a bit larger than stated (perhaps a quarter size), so I chose to go with a half size smaller than I normally wear.

These fit very well. Unlike other reviewers I found the fit to be right on for this pair. I do have another pair of Frye in a 9½ that is a bit big, so there may be some variation as these were in a 10. Zappos delivery is great as always.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Excellent boots, great feel and classic look. Only issue is sizing. I wear size 13 combat boots (Belleville), hiking boot (Asolo), trail running shoe (Merril), formal shoes and others (except Teva's). I ordered the size 13, but it was a little too big with a lot of heal slippage, although pretty much else was good. I then ordered a 12E which removed the slippage but my toes were touching the front of the boot. If Frye made a 12.5 then this would have been a non-issue. Oh, well I kept the 13 and added some inserts and heal pads. Works well enough.

What a relief! Comfort from the first time I tried them on. These are truly great boots. I love the dark brown finish, perfect fit and comfortable to walk in. I have a wide foot and was looking for a dark brown harness style boot. The first pair I tried was the "dark brown" Frye in the standard medium width. Not only was it too narrow for me, there wasn't any "dark" with the "brown". After speaking to the helpful folks at Zappos, they advised me that the Gaucho was actually a true dark brown and it came in a wide size. I love the way these boots look and feel and am enjoying the character the leather is developing as I wear them.

We ordered these boots on Friday and they arrived on Monday and my husband loves them! Most shoes he wears an 11 or 11 1/2 but has a wide foot so we got the 11 EE wide and the fit is perfect. He is looking forward to wearing them on a motorcycle ride soon as well as an everyday boot. Excellent craftsmanship and he says very comfortable right out of the box, awesome color too! Shopping with Zappos is amazing, 5 star service all the way. We have placed several orders with this company and are very pleased. Returns are a breeze as well. Thank you Zappos!

These boots are absolutely amazing. Great looking! So comfortable. I usually wear 12 or 11 wide. But I ended up with the 11 . They felt snug at first but your feet get used to it. I love these shoes and Zappos!

This is the best boot I ever got. Frye has been making these boots since 1863. Yes, you can say they know a few things about making boots. I will not buy another brand. Great attention to details, great craftsmanship, great quality. These boots are made to last for years to come. this is my 4th purchase from Zappos. Don't buy shoes from anywhere else, guys, take my word for it. And, yes, they are true to the size. Just get your size. I wear 9 for my dress shoes and I purchased 9. And it's just right. Comfortable to wear right out of the box. At first putting them on is a bit tricky but but once on, you are good to go.

I tried these boots in a size 9 and a size 8.5. The smaller size fit better and after a couple of days breaking in they fit very well. This is a very comfortable boot that goes well with causal clothes.

I bought these boots about 4 months ago and have been wearing them ever since. I initially bought them for a wedding and for casual boots, but once the newness wore off I started wearing them to work and am extremely satisfied with how well they hold up. I abuse them pretty bad at my job and they still look and feel great. Despite wearing them as work boots, I am still able to wear them out on weekends. As far as sizing goes, I would get a size smaller than you usually do for lace up boots/shoes but this rule is pretty universal for me with non-lace shoes. I typically wear 15, but got the 14's in these. With Zappos return policy though you can just order both and return the ones that don't fit, that's what I did.

These boots are sweet. I tried on a pair of size 9D at a brick and mortar store because many of the reviews mentioned that the boots are a bit narrow. The 8 1\/2 wide is a perfect fit for my normally 9D in any other shoe.

Bought these for my husband who has a flat, wide foot. He usualy wears a 10.5 wide but decided to go up a half size. Plenty of toe room. The only tight spot is over his instep but we think it will stretch. Overall very happy with the boot. As always Zappos\\\' service rocks.

Frye boots always have the best leather. The color of these are the perfect amount of natural looking distress, and dark matte brown color. They were exactly 1 half size too large, but returns are always easy at Zappos. I bought them for my husband for Christmas. He loves them because they dress up a casual outfit, yet aren’t shiny like some dress shoe. And like all boots they do need some breaking in time to be more comfortable.

I'm a Baby Boomer who coveted Frye harness boots when I was in college in the 70s. I finally broke down and bought a pair. Very high quality. Thick leather and sturdy construction. Very comfortable and they still look way cool. I normally wear a narrow, but the medium width fit me perfectly, so I guess these run a bit narrow. If your foot is even a little broad, order the wide. I have weird feet. They measure 13-1/2. In most brands I need a 14. In the Frye, the 13 was a better fit. It's 1972 again, and this old man feels almost sexy!
Brands I'd also recommend: If you have feet my size (13.5 narrow), try Hush Puppies in 13B. They fit.

The first boots I\'ve ever owned, and the coolest shoes I\'ve ever owned. I bought the 9.5\'s first, and returned them for a 9. Once broken in, they are incredibly comfy, and my wife can\'t stop talking about them. She even bought me Seven jeans just to show off these boots. I wear them almost daily.

Well, I can tell you this about these boots, they are the first pair of shoes I have worn in single digits since I was 12. Buy at least a 1/2 size smaller than you think you need! The EE width makes this boot very comfortable for wide feet. The leather is supple and breaks in quickly. Make sure to invest in the Frye leather conditioner because the finish on these boots will attract dirt like no other. I ordered a 10.5 first and ended up with a 9.5 fitting just right. Zappos was great and let me try them on side by side! I didn't have to send one back just to get another! And they gave me priority shipping so I got them in 2 days! I can't say enough about their customer service. Oh yeah, and Frye makes a great boot!
