The circumference on this boot is no where near 16" as stated. Couldn't even get then half way onto my 15" calves.

The other review said these were not 16" at the calf. I just measured mine, and they are, so maybe she had a defective pair or something. My calves are about 13" and these fit great. These boots are amazing. Let me say that I, like most people, am very picky when it comes to boots. They are not cheap! And it makes sense to have one awesome pair and not 10 decent pairs, so I have looked and looked. I had a pair of Dorado Lows that I wore a few times and then sold on eBay - there just was something that I did not like about them. I was also looking at the tall Carson boots, and I like that rugged style and the wearable sole, but these were so pretty and I ordered them instead. I just got them in, put them on and am wearing them around the house. I bought a 10 (I usually wear an 11 in almost all brands) but Frye is known to be a bit large size wise and I knew that the leather would stretch. The pull tabs on the inside of these are very handy and practical, and it was a teeny bit hard to get them on the first time. Once you get your foot in, though, they fit like a dream. So much so that I am thinking maybe my feet have shrunk! The leather is top quality and smells delightful, and these are seriously attractive riding boots. I am not sure how slippery they will be on the bottom so after I wear them for a bit I may have a rubber sole put on. These boots are expensive, no doubt. But they are completely beautiful, fit like a dream and will last me the rest of my life. As in, I will give these to my unborn daughter one day. I usually wear brown leather because I tend to wear all black and I do not like adding black leather to that because I am not goth like that. These boots have the great combination of being both dark and brown so I can wear them with pretty much anything. I highly recommend if you can afford them! Oh, I am 5'11 and they come a few inches below my knee. If you are really short these might overwhelm you.
Brands I'd also recommend: Type Z, Bass, Boutique 9, John Fluevog

The most amazing, perfect boots. They go beautifully with black and brown, jeans, or dressier skirts and tights. They are a bit hard to get on at first, I have high arches, but they are extremely comfortable and just look amazing. They are slim through the calf, which I love, but might be too small if you have bigger calves. Perfection!

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.
