Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These are beautiful leather boots with a glossy finish which makes them more formal than most Frye boots. The leather linings are a wonderful touch for comfort and breath-ability. The soles are a little slippery, but a few dollars at your local cobbler shop will fix that right up with some anti-skid strips. I have no trouble pulling these on, and I like the sleekness of the no-zipper design. However, they are less fitted around the ankles than I generally prefer. I also ordered the Shirley Strappy by Frye, and I'll have to choose between them. That will be a really tough call.

Very disappointed. Style and leather was exceptional; unfortunately, the slip-on fitting doesn't suit the long shaft style. It needs a zipper inside for entry (which I don't think would spoil the boot aesthetic). After battling for 15 minutes I did get them on only to find the strap at the top of the shaft was a different length between left and right. These are going back. For this price they should be perfect.

These boots are beautifully constructed. The leather outer is supple but durable. The leather lining is soft and breathable. The zipperless style results in these being less fitted around the ankles than most other (zippered) fashion-oriented riding boots that I considered. While I prefer a sleeker fit around the ankles, the other merits of these boots resulted in my accepting this as a minor drawback; the front view of the boots is quite narrow around the ankles due to how the boots are constructed, and the side view isn't overly loose in this area. I suspect that these will last for many years. They have a classic style and the feel of high quality.

I LOVE these boots. They are made of the softest, smoothest, most lovely smelling leather in the world. They provide enough cushions to keep me comfortable all day long, and they are extremely stylish and sophisticated. The one drawback would be that they were just a tad slippery the first couple times that I wore them. I am so in love with Fryes, it's just too bad that it is such an expensive addiction.

Totally worth the price! Beautifully made and almost as comfortable as my sneakers even after a 10-hour shift on my feet. These boots go equally well with slim jeans or tights and a dress. I usually wear a size 9 the size 9.5 fits perfectly over thick socks. And the shaft, while it could be adjusted to fit larger calves, fits my skinny 14" ones well.
