Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

In regards to what other reviewers are saying about the inside seams, they are only a bother if you plan to wear these boots without socks. I first tried these on without socks and yes, the seam is irritating to a bare foot. However, since I plan on wearing them with socks, I grabbed a normal pair socks and they fit perfectly and no irritation at all. The boots are roomy enough to accommodate my wide feet and I love that about them. I hate when shoes are so narrow that it applies a lot of pressure on that tiny bone that juts out right below your pinkie toe. There is a Frye tag on the heel of the shoe that may feel uncomfortable when you first try it on, but it quickly flattens down when you wear the boots outside. I was concerned the tag on the heel would be irritating, but after 2 days of use, I can't even feel the tag anymore. Overall, I am thrilled with my purchase. This is my 5th or 6th pair of Fryes, very happy, will continue to purchase from them. Oh yeah, I particularly love the engineers because I feel superhuman with them on, as if I could kick down doors and generally kick ass.

Fit a little more generous than the Frye Engineer due to the shearling lining, otherwise true to size and width. The buckles can be adjusted for the width. Very warm boots, and much better quality, style, and fit than Uggs. The color is a nice warm brown / chestnut / honey color leather with a slightly darker toe and heel. The only thing I would change is to make the boot taller. Overall, great winter boot!

Be careful with this one. Straight out of the box I thought they were the ones, and that the rubbing on the top of my foot was because they were tight and would quickly stretch like other Frye boots. So I wore them outside. Now I realize that the pain is from the seams where the lining is stitched together rubbing against my foot, and it's not going away. It's only getting worse, and I'm stuck with them. So if you decide to try them be sure to try them on barefoot and feel inside so you can tell where the seams are. This is a lot of money to throw away.

These boots have served me so far in the slushy snowy winter we've been having in Boston. They are not waterproof, so I treated them with a spray to make them more water-resistant. Took a week or so to break these in. Now I never want to take them off!

I live in Upstate NY where there's lots of wet sloppy snow. These boots are great for just such weather. Remember to waterproof them with a good spray. They're cute and highly functional with the all rubber sole. Might I add that they're stylish too! The shearling lining does split along the seam line on the underneath of the top of the boot seaming. I'm aware of it, but don't mind as I wear them with wool socks. This might be annoying for those who wear shearling boots without socks. The boots do fit true to size. These have been my go to boots this winter.
I'd also recommend: Lucchese, Fiorentini & Baker
