The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Purchased these boots a few weeks ago. I have very wide feet and I was reluctant to squeeze my foot into a narrow toed boot, but these boots are so gorgeous I am tempted to buy another pair for fear I will never find them when I have finally worn them out. They are fairly flat so no cushion on the sole. Wouldn't want to stand on them all day; however, width was great. Very comfortable and they look expensive and I wear with jeans as I am over the high heel thing at my age - mid 50s. I highly recommend.

This is the most beautiful boot and I wanted to keep it, but the heel was so loose. No matter what I did to remedy it, it still flopped all around when I walked in them.

These are great boots! Super cute styling, and fit true to size. Like others said, the heel is loose, just like a Dansko clog, but it\'s not a problem at all, and actually is how boots should fit. The leather and finishing are quality, and the color (the brown) is amazing. I will get a lot of wear out of these, either under jeans, with jeans tucked in, or with skirts/dresses.

I have wide feet and these are unexpectedly comfortable, really good looking boots. The wide shank at the top limits wearing them to leggings or skirts (or whatever you can tuck in) even with the adjustable strap because even boot cut jeans are not wide enough to go over the shank. And, as with all things named Frye, they are way overpriced. Although I am a shoe addict, I would never have bought these boots (too much money for too little versatility) except that I got money for Christmas. I do love them, and the quality is very good, so if you have extra money, I can recommend them with pleasure.

I'd also recommend: Sesto Meucci, Via Spiga, Eli Tahari

Excellent buy. After receiving these beauties, wore them the next day, all day. That's how comfy they are. No need to "break 'em in." Bought my normal size and everything about them is right.

I absolutely love these boots. This is the second pair that I have bought so now I have them in two colors. They fit like cowboy boots which explains why they are loose on the heels, but are very comfortable. I have walked in them all day with no problems. I also love the many color choices.
