I just love my boots! Frye boots normally look very western. This style is more of a fashion boot. I am 50+ and my daugther is 17. We both look appropriate in this style. Very comfortable, beautiful leather! I keep the foam insert in the boot when they are in my closet to keep the boots nice and tall.

These boots are cute, but they slip in the heel and are tight in the toe box. Additionally they run big. I never wear an 8 anymore, but in these I definitely need an 8. For the amount I paid one would think that the fit would be perfect, soft and comfortable. It definitely was not.

After carefully reading all of the reviews on this Frye Dorado Riding Boot, I decided to take a chance. I was very concerned about the reports on heel slippage, so I decided to order an 8.5 instead of a 9. I have two other pairs of Frye Boots (Harness and Campus) in size 9 and they fit swell, a little big, but never a problem with slipping, blisters, tightness, etc. These boots run big. They are longer than where my toes end, but kind of tight in the ball of the foot area, and I don't have any issues with width or bunions. Unfortunately, they slip in the heel like mad. I am so disappointed. I don't know if it's just this pair, or if it's all of them. I'm wearing them right now and here's what happens: Standing with my feet flat on the ground, they're fine, but if I position my feet into a tiptoe, you can feel a gigantic gap of space under your heel area. When I walk, even just a few feet my heel goes up and down rubbing the back of the boot. It's really annoying. I'm going to see if there's anything I can do about this because they are gorgeous boots. The shaft fits perfectly and even offers plenty of room to tuck in jeans (my calves are normal sized). I'll try a few things in an effort to remedy the situation and report back with the results.

Frye is the best. The quality will never disappoint you! These boots are great with skinny jeans, short or long skirts. Love them! I did order both a 9.5 and a 10 because others were saying to order a 1/2 size down. That didn't work for me; the 9.5 was too tight in the toe and loose in the heel. I have a narrow foot anyway, but the 10 is enough space without being too tight. They are still a little loose in the heel, but with a thicker sock, they're fine. I wore them around NYC all day the very first day I had them and my feet didn't hurt a bit! If you're debating whether these are worth the money, the answer is yes, buy 'em!

These boots are awesome. Ordered the fawn colored suede ones. Read other reviews which said they run big, but had to re-order my regular shoe size as the shaft was tight around my calf. The length is fine on the bigger size, so if your calves aren't "skinny", go with your normal shoe size. I love Zappos!

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Love these boots! They fit true to size and have ample room to tuck in jeans, even if they are not skinny jeans! They are very sharp and get many compliments. Worth every penny because of the quality.

I love these boots! I ordered them on a Wednesday and received them that Thursday. I love them so much I wore them Friday, Saturday and Sunday! I usually wear a 8.5 or a 9; ordered the 8.5 and they fit well as far as length. The other reviews are correct, they are wide in the heel and a little narrow in the front area. I wore thick socks which helped with the heel and I did not get blisters. They are still much more comfortable than heels and just as stylish. I received quite a few compliments over the weekend. This is definitely my biggest splurge on shoes, but like everyone else says in the reviews, you will be wearing these for years because of their classic styling and rugged leather. They are a little big on me in the calf area, but because they are a higher boot (hits right under my knee and I am 5'8") it does not show so much. And the straps on the boots are functional, so I tightened the upper strap to the last hole. I wore them with a black dress Friday night (I have the bordeaux color, a tad lighter than the picture depicts, which I was worried about them being a little too dark, so it worked out perfectly!) and with skinny jeans Saturday night. They looked great with both outfits. Highly recommend.

This is my 6th pair of Frye boots, and I think my favorite. The first couple of times I wore them, the heel did slip up, but now that they are broken in, they are just so comfortable, even wearing them all day. I have athletic calves, so it's hard for me to find tall boots, but I can even wear these with skinny jeans tucked in. They look great with skirts, too. Very well made and feel true to size. Worth the money.

Great boots. I have a fairly narrow foot. They slip in the heel just a bit, but otherwise a great and comfortable fit. Great looking, good quality, good height. Wouldn\'t fit someone with a large calf. I wear a size 8 1/2 Cole Haan, and I ordered an 8 in this shoe. Worth the money.

Beautiful boots, just what I wanted. I read all of these reviews before picking my size and I finally decided to go with a half size up. I\'m a 6 1/2 in tennis shoes and a 7 in heels and boots and I ordered a 7 in these. There is no way I would have worn a 6 1/2 comfortably. They will look too big before you put them on but it is only because the toe narrows. I\'ve worn them twice and I still feel like I have giant feet when looking down at them but the shaft of the boot makes up for that. And when you look in the mirror they look fine. I would highly recommend these if you\'re into the unique, European style look.

So, Frye must have spied on all of my boot shopping trips in the last few years, because these Dorado Riding Boots are the answer to all my footwear prayers. I'm 5'8'' and have definite "dancer calves" (15.5 inches) which means finding cute boots is an endeavor. Pull on styles, especially, never ever fit. After reading the measurements on here, I was a little nervous about these not working out, since 15'' circumferences are on the small side for me, but the other reviewers comments convinced me to take a chance. Wow. I'm so glad I did! The boots fit perfectly: slim at the ankles, without the dreaded bunching, but with enough room to not only pull the boots on comfortably, but to wear them with my skinny jeans, as well! As far as styling, these are absolutely perfect riding boots. They look good with anything from jeans to dresses and have a very luxe appearance. I was torn between the Spice and Bordeaux versions, but opted for the Spice in the end. The color is absolutely amazing, just like in the pictures. I'd seen other images on the Frye website that had it looking more like a tan, but the true color is more of a rich black tea with honey. Just perfect! Seriously, if you have trouble finding boots that fit your calves, or just want a great looking riding boot, you can't go wrong with these! They're definitely pricey, but a pair of Fryes will last a lifetime. With this classic styling, you'll be sure to want them a lifetime, as well. Personally, I may be sacrificing part of my Christmas bonus for another pair! Also, note on Zappos: My boots ordered late on a Monday night, then arrived at my doorstep before 3 the next day! With that kind of service, why would you order shoes from anywhere else?

These boots are positively awesome. They gave me blisters the first four or five times I wore them, but if you alternate days you wear them your heels toughen up pretty quickly. I get compliments on them every single time I wear them. And they're comfortable enough to walk to work in them. I walk about a mile back and forth every day.

As soon as I slipped into these boots, I was so excited because these are almost custom made boots. I have a big calf, and compared to my calf size I have a very small ankle. I always have problems with my boots with a lot of wrinkles around my ankle area. I am glad I ordered my regular size 9 because those wrinkles look minimum. (When I tried on 8.5 at a department store, I was not happy with the look of my ankle area. I loved all about these boots except the wrinkle problem as usual.) I may have to tuckle a little to wear over skinny jeans, though. For those who have average calf size, there will be no problem because these boots have bigger calf than other boots. It also gives a long and lean look because they are tall. The service of Zappos was exceptional. My boots arrived within 48 hours! Thank you, Zappos.

I love these boots but the heel is too big for me and gave me blisters on both feet the first time I wore them. I will try thick ski socks the next time I venture out and hope that that will fix the problem.

I bought these boots in brown last year. This was the best fashion investment I have EVER made. Everywhere I wear these boots I am stopped and asked who\'s they are. This was a big investment in a shoe for me, but cost per wear this shoe will win! Fall came around and nothing excited me more than pulling these boots out and slipping my skinny jeans inside of them. It was like hello winter, welcome - stick around a little while so I can kick around!

Great quality leather and workmanship is very fine. These boots are just what I have been looking for. I really wanted some boots to fit over my jeans, but my thighs are not tiny (15" thighs, 5'7" tall and a size 8.5 shoe). Boot after boot was tried and rejected. (Isn't Zappos wonderful!) These worked! They are relatively tall boots and fit easily over my jeans.

These boots are awesome! I first saw them in a high end department store back in August, but they were sold out. I knew from last year that I wanted Fryes because they fit my calf with jeans on and are comfortable for looking fashionable on NYC streets! When I went to Zappos, I saw they had the Bordeaux color which is superb! The other colors were not as fun; this color works with everything and has a vintage feel. When they arrived I was pleased that they fit perfectly. It takes a few days to wear them in and the bottoms are still a bit slippery, which I still may get a rubber sole put on for rough winter days. All in all a good purchase; I will purchase more Fryes in the future. They are also expensive looking and get me attention from guys!

I waited 4 years to buy these boots and they were worth the wait. The leather is much softer than you would think by the picture. Very easy to get on and off. Lots of calf room because they are a little loose for me, but that is okay. True to size, 9, a little loose in the heel. I wore them all day the first time I wore them and they were comfortable. I have lots of pain on the balls of my feet, but they were not too problematic with these flat boots. Love them very much.

OMG!\r\nThese boots are to die for! I got them in black, brown, and antique suede. My passion for Frye boots goes way back to the 70\'s. Expensive, but worth every dime. Also, Zappo\'s customer service can\'t be beat!
