Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I originally purchased the Frye Paige boots but changed my mind and decided on the Dorados instead. Zappos's return and exchange service is super easy and fast! Their customer service is the best and always conveniently available. I ordered the blk antique burnished color in a half size smaller than my normal size, and they're very snug and tight around the toes. I would order your true size. No problems putting the boots on or pulling them off. The calf circumference and shaft is pretty wide and long. I'm 5'7, and they hit right under my knees. There's still room in the calf area, and I have average to athletic size calves. There is heel slippage, but that can easily be fixed with some inserts. Overall the boots are gorgeous, and the craftsmanship and leather is of high durable quality that I know will last forever. A classic riding boot that will never go out of style. Love the added lugs on the bottom too for that extra grip when it comes time for snow and ice! Buy it!

Gorgeous boots. A little wide at the top, but that would have been fine if the heel box had been close to acceptable. There is just no structure at the heel, so when I walked, my heel slipped up and side to side. At the suggestion of another reviewer, I tried heel inserts and even a heel cup; they just slipped up and down with my heel. Downright dangerous to try to take a real stride in these. What a shame!

These are beautiful and light. I am 5'8 and have athletic calves. I wear size 8. These allow me to tuck pants inside. The height of the boot is amazingly slimming and regal. They make otherwise very casual clothes into a dashing statement. I plan to wear them regularly with skirts also since the lug sole is not clunky and the leather is fine. So, yes, these are wildly expensive but they provide a special pizazz that is worth it. I am so pleased since I love boots. The Smoke Brush Off is like a dark weathered metallic bronze. They are comfortable. I had not been able to wear Frye with comfort before. I can wear tights or medium weight socks. The foot bed is not overly narrow. They pull on smoothly and with no struggle.

I liked everything about this boot except for the polished red toe that stood out from the rest of the dark brown finish. It looked like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Frye Boot. I thought I would like the "burnished" finish, but the all-red toe just looks bizarre. I am exchanging these for the regular dark brown ones.

I love these boots! Even though they are not listed as wide calf, they fit my wide calf. I searched by circumference! And for those who complained about the heel moving up and down, in real western boots that is how it is supposed to feel, it should allow your foot to move like it would move when wearing flip flops! Zappos is the best!

Beautiful! More rugged looking than the Dorado Riding, leather is thicker but still very soft. I'm 6' tall and this size 11 boot hits my kneecap, 19” tall from floor. I have a high instep but not a problem in getting my foot in. But there is heel slippage when I walk - not sure how to fix that. They might be going back. :(
