Used for upland bird hunting and use around town. No heel slip and enough room for thicker socks if you need them. They are stylish, rugged and well made but if you are looking for a hiking boot I would probably go with Meindl or Asolo because these are a little heavy and don't offer much arch support and no padded insole. For what I use them for though I find them very comfortable and appreciate the gusseted tongue for foul weather. Also my feet are like heaters and I usually shy away from waterproof anything on my foot but I have been wearing these for a month or so to break them in and I have no complaints about overheating. Nothing like good ole raw hide. Not 5 stars on anything because if you want a 5 star boot then you need to get them custom made: Limmer or White's make some really nice ones.
Brands I'd also recommend: Meinl, Asolo, Lemmer, White\'s

These are excellent boots, even though it says made in China. I have returned the size 9, my usual size, and replaced them with an 8.5 which fit perfectly. They are rugged enough to last until the next ice age.

This is the third pair of Frye boots I have owned, and like the other two, they are outstanding. This boot is beautifully constructed and a great fit. There is ample toe room in the forefoot, something often not found in boots. The heel snugs up like a glove, so there is no rubbing right out of the box. The uppers are fairly thick leather, yet quite supple. I typically lace up all but the very top set of hooks, and they are as comfortable as oxfords even so. The footbed has a form-molding foam beneath the insole, and it provides a surprisingly soft feel under the feet, despite the fact that the boot is very supportive. I agree with the other reviewer who mentioned that the heel is somewhat stiffer, yet I have not found it troublesome. I have walked a good distance in these boots in the past month, sometimes up to two miles at a time, and easily find them to be as comfortable as any other shoes I own. All in all, a great buy and a most satisfactory product.

Nice looking boot, but a little too big (a half size bigger than posted). After wearing them for a week, the stitching came apart. I don't recommend this boot.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

These are great boots, no winter snow boot but other than that they fit well, are well made. I ordered a size smaller than I normally wear in a shoe.

Overall this a great pair of boots. But when I first got them the backs were a little stiff and dug into the backs of my calves a bit. I found that not lacing the last two sets of eyelets helped with this. I've had them for about a month now and the ankle sections seemed to have softened up and are more comfortable. Other than that aspect they're very comfortable.

I bought these as a snow and mud boot, and they have excelled. Heavy wool socks fit nicely in my size, but thin socks I would have to size down. Leather molds to my feet after a few weeks of steady use, and they are warm and comfortable. Lugged sole is great for hiking. True work boots.

I think these boots are great. Took me about two days to break them in and after that they feel very comfortable. They might be a tiny bit heavy but they also feel very rugged and protect well from elements. The inside of the boot has a soft insole which keeps feet comfortable the whole day plus it seems like it absorbs moisture pretty well. I am very happy with this purchase.

These are great boots from a great company. Also thank you Zappos for upgrading the shipping. I received them next day from when I placed the order. The boots are rugged, well built, everything a "boot" should be. Thanks.

Great looking and super comfortable right out of the box. Very high grade pebbled leather gives these rugged boots a subtle hint of high class. There's almost no break-in time, which is rare for a high leather boot. And after a couple months of wear they're really holding up well. Quality construction. Great boots.

Like all Frye's - a great boot. Great construction. A little stiff but they like all Frye's get better with wear. I am a firm 10, but had to get a 9.5. They do run a bit big. But Zappos handled the exchange like champs. Zappos is the best! Seriously!
Brands I'd also recommend: Affliction.

Purchased a boot a full size smaller then I normally purchase, as recommended elsewhere. Fit length wise, but boot is very narrow. I must have missed the other review, I was very disappointed to learn these were made in China.

Great shoe and very comfortable, worth every penny. I could wear these the entire day, and they don't hurt my feet. This boot is for casual and normal wear. Having worked in a warehouse before, where shoes take a beating, I wouldn't say it's a per se warehouse work boot, although it feels tough. I had the luxury of trying a different color on in a local store first before buying the color I wanted online. I would have bought them from the store to support local business; however, it would take the store a couple of weeks to get the ones I wanted whereas I received them in 2 days from Zappos.

I bought these shoes for my 18 year old son. He likes them a lot. He says they fit well and perhaps run a bit larger but not uncomfortably so. He likes them because they go with everything, chinos, jeans, etc. The color is very rich, and although the boot is rugged, it has a classy shape and clean lines. The quality is exceptional, not surprising for Frye. Assuming he is done growing, I'm sure he will have this boot for a long time. Overall, we are very satisfied with the boot, and of course, Zappos never disappoints!
