Inferior Boots - I've been waiting for this boot for years. I've owned Frye Boots for over 30 years. In the past, Frye's Calvary were designed and made as well, if not better, than the Campus. I feel if the Calvary Boots are to take off, they should be: 1. lined, and 2. offered in various shades. Like I said, I love the design of the boots, now all they have to be is upgraded to the class they used to be in.

A great looking, plain boot - For those that don't want or need a fancy boot, these are for you. They are a little narrow for my wide feet, but have stretched with wearing and aren't a problem. A good boot - you won't be disappointed.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Last purchased in 1979 - It's been 25 years since I've purchased a pair Frye boots. The quality has not changed in all these years. I'm back as a regular customer and Zappos has made it even easier by doing it on-line. Thanks

Awesome boot! Very nice boot! Looks good with jeans to make any outfit complete. I wish Frye made this boot lighter though. So, to achieve this, I took some sand paper and went over the entire boot to give it a lighter shade and a very distressed look. It look awesome. People have given me so many compliments on my sandpapered Frye boot!

Great boot ... At this price, this is not a cheap boot. However, the build quality and workmanship are excellent and the overall fit, finish and general look is great. If you like the idea of a western styled boot without all that pointy-toed stichiness of a classic western boot, these are for you. Zappos weren't quite the cheapest for the boot itself, but by the time you factor in their free shipping AND free returns, Zappos is the place to buy shoes online. Let's face it, if they don't fit you can send them back, for FREE.

Wonderful boot, great shopping experience! Just received my Frye Cavalry style boots. I had Frye boots years ago in college (early seventies). Best boots I ever owned. I love the square toe, but I do not like a motorcycle boot. Cowboy boots, with the pointed toe and the fancy stitching, look too fancy (really, did actual cowboys really wear such a "dandy" looking shoe?). This is just what I was looking for: a traditional boot with a square toe and no frilly decoration! Zappos.com is the place to order! I placed my order on Thursday and received the boots the following Monday, and no shipping charges! Wonderful boot, great shopping experience!

Excellent boot, very comfortable. It runs a bit big, not sure a full half size but I wear thick socks and ordered my usual size 11; seems to work well. Well made and comfortable even for extended walking as long as you like a good sized heel, which is definitely taller on this boot than most other boots I've worn. I've got the brown, which goes great with jeans. Will order the same in black.

Great boot, fantastic service! First, I originally ordered the Frye Harness Boot in 11.5. The harness boot was too wide so I returned. I found the Cavalry boot which appears to be identical to the harness boot, without the harness (which I wasn't too fond of to begin with). I ordered a size 11 at 9:30 pm and the boots were on my doorstep at 10:00 am the next morning. Amazing! Going down a half size made all the difference in fit. I lost a fraction of length, but more importantly, I lost all the excess width which was causing the harness boot to gap across the top of my foot. I added a decent insole with arch support (which I do with all my boots) and the fit is perfect. The Cavalry boots appear to be very well made with top of the line leather. The sole of the Cavalry is leather and once broken in, should be very conforming and comfortable. The sole on the harness boot is rubber. I expect the Frye Cavalry boot to last for years and years and I'll be able to resole and reheel to extend their life further. I'm very pleased with my purchase and the service from Zappos. You could find the boots cheaper, but I'll return to Zappos as the excellent service is well worth the slight cost increase.

The boots need some wearing in, I expected that to be the case. There are instructions all over the internet but not on Frye's site. Only one real tiny little problem, the boots are not that similar, the left is definitely different. I know that one cannot guarantee conformity, but a little more for a boot this price would have been nice. As far as the ordering was concerned. A seamless and easy ordering experience. Zappos upgraded my shipping to next day, a pleasant surprise.

Really nice boot. A different style than your typical strappy \'biker\' boot. Excellent quality, these look bitchin\' and after one weekend of riding and camping they looked even better. Nice boots that have a great finish to them, they look broken in already.

This is a great boot. I'm used to wearing dress shoes and running shoes, so the heel felt a little high, but I got used to it in a day or so. They look great with jeans. And they are made in the USA! For me that makes them well worth the price.
