These boots are gorgeous if you are looking for a cowboy boot style, very simple tall boot. The leather is top quality, they are comfortable and would be a "lifetime" boot. I decided to send them back because I really want a more biker, city style, as opposed to cowboy style. I decided on the Telluride boot by Franco Sarto. The Carson is pricey, but if you want this look they are totally worth the money. The smell of the leather was almost enough to convince me to keep them! So very pretty.

I love these shoes! The leather is so soft and the shoes smell wonderful! The first time I wore them I had to spend a few minutes scuffing up the bottoms and they still have some traction issues, but outside of that they are the best boots ever. They run a little big, so I had to have a half-size smaller than normal.

Skinny legs. I have been looking for Frye boots that are skinny enough for my legs. First, I had ordered the Shirley Riding boot and I could stick my leg and arm down the shaft of the boot, huge! So I sent them back and tried the Dorado Riding boots and they were still too big; better, but too big. Finally tried these and they fit awesome! They are super cute and stylish, super comfortable and they are made for people with skinny legs like me! Only complaint I have is there is no traction whatsoever on the bottom of the boots. First time I wore them I almost busted my ass a few times, but with time, the traction gets better.

As would be expected from Frye, these boots are well made with soft leather. They are incredibly comfortable, they run about a half size large. I typically wear a 9 and my 8.5 fit great. The calves are nice and slim- which is often difficult to find. If you have large calves these may not be the boot for you in the smaller sizes. They are taller than Frye\'s carson pull up. The tabs on the side stick out a bit farther than I would like but I am hoping that over time they will rest against my calves.

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Beautiful boots! Soft, supple high grade leather. Love. Unfortunately, because I have sticks for calves they were just too bit, and sadly, very sadly, they will be returned. If you don't have sticks for legs, you won't be sorry as they are gorgeous!

Way too tight! I could barely pull them on; no way could I get a legging in them and never be able to wear them over jeans. Really cute and disappointing!

Beautiful, top quality boots! Loved them so much in black that I had to get them in brown, too. Run about 1/2 a size too big; I normally wear a 9 but the 8.5 fit perfectly. I have slightly muscular calves so the fit on these was perfect. The Carson Riding is slightly taller than the regular Carson. These look great dressed down with leggings or jeans, or dressed up with a skirt or dress. The Carson style is great if you are seeking a 'cowboy' look, but don't want a real cowboy boot like the Billy style. Fast shipping and great service by Zappos as always! Zappos, you're my favorite place to buy shoes!

OK but not quite what i was looking for - Sole is not nearly as supportive as the sole in the Frye harness boots. Beautiful leather, but I didn't like how loose and bunchy the shaft was. It had a slouch look to it which I didn't expect. Not comfy enough to be my everyday boot.

Frye hits the mark again! These are great boots and well worth the money if you are looking for a boot that will be stylish for years to come. I am 5'10" and like my boots tall and with a close-fitting calf and these fit the bill perfectly. The leather is beautiful and does smell magnificent. I have worn them all day long and they are very comfortable. They are very versatile and look great with dresses/skirts and also with leggings or skinny jeans. I usually wear a size 10.5/11, but bought a size 10 and they fit perfectly. They are actually roomy, which is nice because I can wear thick socks with them and they are still very comfortable. I would recommend ordering a half size down from your usual size, if possible.

This boot is gorgeous! Buttery and perfect for gals with skinny calves. A *HUGE* note of caution for walking on wooden floors - the nails in the heels WILL scratch and nick the wood. I literally fell to my knees and cried. I love these boots AND my floors so much and it was traumatizing to realize the damage. The floors can be buffed, but if this were to have happened in someone else’s home I would have never forgiven myself. I’m going to take them to a cobbler to have an additional sole put on the heels.

I had these boots in less than 24 hours delivered to the door right in time for Christmas! They are everything and more. The fit is perfect they are soft and supple! The reviews were so helpful and made my decision easy. The smell of the leather was overwhelming when I opened the box. I LOVE the smell of leather. They are exactly what I wanted: real leather, flat heel, perfect fit. I have a high arch so I did have to use an arch support in the boot. I have to use an arch support in the majority of the shoes I wear or purchase. I was not disappointed in that factor.

These boots are really cute, but do buy a half size smaller than normal. And they are very slippery at first. Other than that, they are nice and slim, and fit almost up to the knee.

I was a little hesitant and felt a bit guilty spending so much on a pair of boots, but after receiving these I have no regrets. These are the perfect mix of cowboy and urban riding boot. The shaft hits below the knee and dips even slightly lower at the center to make legs look long, and I’m petite! I like the shaft length of the riding boot more than the pull on Carson boot. The pull on hit me right under the calf which wasn’t as flattering on me. It’s a great boot with dresses, leggings, or skinnies. I would order at least a 1/2 size smaller. Dark brown isn’t as dark as the picture which I love. Get these boots! I’m sure you’ll love them, too. Thanks zappos!

These boots are so comfortable and very cool. I am 47 years old and they look great with skinny jeans. My 19 year old daughter loves these boots also; she would love her own pair. I normally wear a 9, but the 8 1/2 is perfect for me. Order 1/2 size down.

I really wanted to love these boots and was excited because everyone said the calf was slim. That has always been a problem for me when buying boots...the calf and ankle are always too large. My calves are not small by any means...they are average and quite muscular. These were still too big!!! The leather was amazing though!!! So soft and supple. If only the calf was an inch smaller!

These guys are awesome! I ordered my last pair of Frye boots from them on a Tuesday night around 8:00 and was told I would receive them on Thursday, because obviously the order would not process until the next day and then ship overnight. Well they did better than that. I received them the next day! And I love these boots. The leather is awesome and they are so comfortable. Exactly what I thought they would be. Never disappointed with Frye. I have three pairs and got the last two from Zappos.com. And as for Zappos, they far exceed any expectation in customer service. I highly recommend them. And if you are purchasing Frye definitely go through Zappos, same price, better service and no delivery charges.

This is a beautiful boot. The leather is soft and of very high quality. A well made boot that will last for years. I wear a size 9 & ordered the size 8.5 and it fit perfectly. My calves are 14.5" and these fit my calves perfectly. They were very tight around the calves, so no room for skinny jeans or leggings. This was fine with me because I wanted a boot that was tight around the calves to wear with skirts/dresses. The shaft height was perfect for my 5'6" height with long legs.

I love my Frye boots! I too was hesitant to purchase these due to the price, but I ended up buying 3 different pair of Frye's due to the comfort and style. The leather is soft...beyond my expectations. For each pair of boots I purchased, I studied customer comments regarding quality and size (each boot sizes differently). With the Carson's I went with my normal size (8 1/2), usually I go a size larger due to my wide feet, but these fit perfectly!

    Brands I'd also recommend: Dorado
