Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I know a lot of the reviews so far have complained about the calf width being small, but I have to say I think it is a perfect fit. I am 5'10", 130lbs and usually a 9 or 9.5 depending on the shoe. I have had a terrible time finding a boot to fit my calf and not look like a "bell" around my leg. This style is perfect. I tried them on in brown at Nordstoms and I was surprised that I wear an 8.5. For tall people with thinner legs it is so hard to find boots, I've tried on at least 100 pairs in my 3 year hunt for black boots. It always seems the larger the foot size the large the calf circumference becomes. The quality, style, and best of all fit, make it worth the money.

This boot has a lovely distressed look - I usually avoid knee high boots as they are always too large around the calves but this one is perfect - I can tuck in skinny jeans very comfortably. A word to the wise, the first couple of time you try these boots on they will be hard to put on and take off - however, the leather softens very quickly and it becomes easy after a wear or two - they are comfortable too! Would recommend to size 1/2 size down.

As usual, awesome Frye boots. My normal size fits (8.5), though they are a little roomy in the toe box. I think that they run slightly large (say a quarter size). After trying these on, then the Melissa boots and the Phillip boots, I'd say that these run largest, with the Melissa a little smaller and the Phillip snugger yet (though I think I'd wear all 3 in my normal size). I can wear them over my skinny jeans without a problem. They look, of course, drop dead gorgeous and are totally comfortable. The dark brown stone antiqued is very distressed - looks like you have worn them for years and have not been totally kind to them. The black stone antiqued are more subtle; as with the brown, the leather is very thick and worn in, but there is not all the scuffing and uneven tones that the brown has. They are a soft black, not gray. There is no shine or wax on either of the colors. What a dilemma. How to choose which one to keep? They are all perfect.
I'd also recommend: Nothing else is like Frye.

I love these boots and they fit my muscular calves. They fit easily over skinny jeans. I own a boutique and work in these boots all day at least four days a week. They are very comfortable.

Fun and fabulous boots! These boots are so comfortable from the get-go. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5. I bought the 8 in these boots and they fit great even with thicker wool socks. No break-in time either! Feels as if I've had these booties for a long while. Great job Frye! And as always, Zappos rules!
