Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

At last! I ordered literally 20 pairs of boots in the last month trying to find a pair that met the following criteria: 1) high quality, beautiful leather, 2) fit my small calves, 3) was comfortable, 4) matched grey and navy blue, and most importantly: 5) passed the boyfriend test. These boots fit the bill! I am absolutely in love with them. The color is so unique and awesome (slate) and they are super comfortable! And my boyfriend actually likes them! He's a very tough critic. A few pairs of boots he saw as I pulled them out of the box and immediately said "no, send them back." These boots he let me keep. I will say, this is the second pair of Carson Heel Tab boots that I ordered. The first pair I got a 6.5, and the calf was way too big. The foot was also large. I returned them (sadly), but decided to re-order the same boots in a size 6. They fit like a glove! Calf could still be a little smaller, and a zipper would be nice, but I am so in love with the color I don't even care. Please consider your foot size when you order - my foot is a true 6, but it is wider than normal, which usually forces me to wear a 6.5 or 7. (I have the Frye Melissa Button in a 6.5 and they are a little tight.) This boot was wider than any other Frye I have tried because of the round toe, which is perfect for my wide feet! My calves are around 14", and I would say the size 6 circumference is close to 15", but the 6.5 was closer to 15.5 or 16". Hope that helps. Great boots though! Love them.

Other than the fact that these boots are difficult to put on, I absolutely love them. Although I was nearly short of breath putting them on, they are very comfortable and fit perfectly. I can wear them with the shaft pulled all the way up or slouched. Perfect boot, Frye!

I love the look and quality of this boot but I wish they were smaller through the calf area. It is hard to believe the first reviewer could not get her foot in the boot because I could literally fold the leather in half there was so much excess. I normally wear a 6 1/2 and they fit perfect and I wore them for over 6 hours the first day with no problem. They have an awesome look and the heel is very comfortable and the gap at the top isn't so bad with skinny jeans that I wanted to return them but I do wish they were a tighter fit from the ankle up. Top quality leather.
I'd also recommend: Nine West, Enzo, White Mountain

Beautiful boot. Something clearly wrong with fit couldn't even get my foot into them. And size is big for me usually. Maybe a zipper?

The color is rich and beautiful (Cognac), leather is very soft and supple, heel high but still very comfortable once put on (I can really feel the soft cushioned foot bed). The shaft would fit comfortably for medium to large calves. The only caveat: they might be very hard to put on, which is why the 4 stars. As mentioned by one reviewer, she could hardly put her foot in. It happened to my left foot. I don't know if it was my personal anatomy or the difference between the boots. I can put on the right one without much difficulty, but the left one is another story. So much so that I thought the two boots were of different sizes. But I was wrong. However, I "persevered" and "struggled" because I love them too much to give up. Once my left heel finally pushed in, it was heaven. The boots are so comfortable. So I kept them even it was like a workout putting on the left one. I wore them all day without feeling any discomfort. By far, my favorite Frye.
