Just writing to help anyone out with fit! I wear a size 8 sneaker, sometimes 8½ in narrow heel styles, but I've bought L.L Bean boots in size 7. Listening to reviewers that said this style was narrow, I got an 8½ Frye boot, and it fits well. I have average size calves, and the boot fits with enough room for jeans and about 2 fingers. It might be a little tight on you if you have large calves. In terms of height, I'm 5'8 and they were about 2 inches below my knees. These boots are classic and well made--can't go wrong.

I got these boots for my wife last Christmas. She loves these boots. Wears them all the time, get's tons of complements and I get points all year! Fit and finish is as expected. She is a size 6 and while tight at first, they fit perfect once the get broken in. Beautiful boots.

These boots are perfect. The oiled suede looks even better in person than in the picture. They are comfortable (leather lined), fit perfectly (true to size), and jeans look awesome. I wore these boots with skinny jeans to the hospital for a Dr.'s meeting, and I swear when I walked down the hall the 3 male surgeons stared at me walking until I was out of sight. One of them told me later (3 times that day actually), "you look really good." The heel on this boot is just enough to make you legs look long, but low enough to be extremely comfortable and practical for wearing all day. They have an equestrian vibe, but are hotter than your basic English riding boots. They also look great with casual over-the-knee skirts!

Not quite what I was looking for. I have very thin calves (under 14") and these just swam on me. Looked like I had a huge huge calve. Unfortunately this pair of Fryes had to go back.

About Frye
Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I love the oiled suede finish on these boots. They are very comfortable and with the zipper there is no having to tug them on and off. This is a great casual boot with a teeny bit of a Western look to pair with jeans or leggings and room in calf area to tuck in bootleg jeans.

I love these boots! I bought the dark brown oiled suede. The finish is much tougher than a regular suede, more like leather. I am a true size 7 and they fit perfect. I'm 5'2" with smallish calves, 12.5 inches. The top of the boot comes about an inch below the bottom of my kneecap. The buckle at the top of the boot is adjustable with four holes, I used the tightest setting and with skinny jeans they fit fairly snug. I can't stand when boots are big around the calf, I was very happy with the fit of these. Great casual boot!

This is a gorgeous boot. I wanted it to be my first pair of Fryes, but my big calves won't let it be. I have very large, athletic calves. The fit was just too snug. Wish I could have kept them.

These boots are nothing short of amazing! I was looking for stylish boots that weren't too bikerish, riding bootish or cowboy bootish. These are a wonderful combination of all three types. These are not girlie delicate boots that feel as though they'll fall apart if they get used to much. And yet, I don't feel like I'm wearing my man's work boots. I wore them out the first 2 nights I owned them and my feet didn't hurt at all. Love. Love. Love.

I am in love with these boots! They just arrived yesterday. They are sexy, sturdy and adorable! I normally wear a 9.5 but I always buy a 9 in Frye. The 9 fits perfect. They're also very comfortable. The oiled leather gives them a slightly more rugged look, but because of the height and the hardware, they can easily be paired with a frilly dress to create a killer sexy look.

I really like the rough textured leather of these boots and the fit was accurate. I ordered a size 10 and they seem to be true to size. The only issue with these is the shape is rather more chunky than I want. I need something more sleek and versatile. These are wide and rounded through the toe area, making them look more like really tall work boots.

Boot Nirvana! I love these boots! These are my first pair of Frye boots, and yes, they are ridiculously expensive, and no, you can't justify the cost - so don't! Just get them and you will want to wear them all the time. I wear a size 8 but typically get 8.5s for comfort, and I have feet of normal width. These boots are a little roomy - I probably could have gotten 8s and they would still have fit fine - but I like the extra room. The heel is just right - high enough to add a little height, without being uncomfortable. The leather sole is soft and comfortable on the feet - no bruises on the balls of my feet at all. I got the black, oiled leather finish, which looks great. The boots come about an inch and a half below my knees (I'm 5'5" and do not have long legs) and fit well around the calf - they aren't snug, but they aren't enormous, either. The zipper on both boots works just fine, and in case I didn't say it before, these boots are so comfortable - I can wear them all day, and in fact, I hate to take them off. The only thing I am slightly concerned about is how fast the leather sole may wear out and need to be replaced - since I plan on wearing these every chance I get. Another bonus - they even smell great, nice and leathery, the way boots should. If you're going to plunk down a lot of money for a fantastic pair of boots, these Frye boots are the way to go!

When I got these boots they were the 3rd pair of Frye boots I'd purchased. I now have 7 pair, and these continue to be my favorite! I fell in love with these boots the minute I saw them. I got them in the black oiled suede, and get a ton of compliments whenever I wear them. These boots are super comfy, too. As a doctor, I'm on my feet running around the hospital all day, and these boots help keep me going. They have a bit of rugged feel, but not so much so that I can't pair them with a nice dress, which give the outfit a bit of an edge. I've had no problems with the zipper, and feel they run true to size.

If I had to wear one pair of shoes every single day, I would choose these boots. They are the perfect boot for jeans and a cute top. They are incredibly comfortable - I wear them walking around NYC for hours with no problem. They do run small; I have a 10 that fit perfectly, but I usually wear more of a 10.5 or 11. I could not say enough good things about these boots. They are, in a word, amazing.

This is the first review I have ever written, but I love these boots so much I had to take the time to review about them. First, Frye boots tend to run big. The Frye Carmen does not. I wear a size 6 1/2 and the 6 1/2 fit with ample room to allow for stretch as all leather boots do stretch a bit. I ordered a size down and had to send them back. My toe was at the end of the boot, not because the leather was too snug. I feel that this boot is not for women with small calves. They would sag at the ankle. They are comfortable to walk in and very attractive. I have had several compliments on them and a stranger actually said she had boot envy! So with that - I felt a review was warranted. Zappos is amazing as anyone who has ever placed an order knows. This is the only company I consistently order from online. Great job Zappos!
