The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Just writing to help anyone out with fit! I wear a size 8 sneaker, sometimes 8½ in narrow heel styles, but I've bought L.L Bean boots in size 7. Listening to reviewers that said this style was narrow, I got an 8½ Frye boot, and it fits well. I have average size calves, and the boot fits with enough room for jeans and about 2 fingers. It might be a little tight on you if you have large calves. In terms of height, I'm 5'8 and they were about 2 inches below my knees. These boots are classic and well made--can't go wrong.

I got these boots for my wife last Christmas. She loves these boots. Wears them all the time, get's tons of complements and I get points all year! Fit and finish is as expected. She is a size 6 and while tight at first, they fit perfect once the get broken in. Beautiful boots.

Not quite what I was looking for. I have very thin calves (under 14") and these just swam on me. Looked like I had a huge huge calve. Unfortunately this pair of Fryes had to go back.

These boots are perfect. The oiled suede looks even better in person than in the picture. They are comfortable (leather lined), fit perfectly (true to size), and jeans look awesome. I wore these boots with skinny jeans to the hospital for a Dr.'s meeting, and I swear when I walked down the hall the 3 male surgeons stared at me walking until I was out of sight. One of them told me later (3 times that day actually), "you look really good." The heel on this boot is just enough to make you legs look long, but low enough to be extremely comfortable and practical for wearing all day. They have an equestrian vibe, but are hotter than your basic English riding boots. They also look great with casual over-the-knee skirts!
