In September I got these for myself as a birthday gift. Seriously, it's mid-November and I think I've worn them almost every day with skinny jeans. They look great, fit great, and I've gotten a bazillion compliments. I bought them in Curry which is a great saddle tan/brown, a nice neutral natural leather color. I wear them with both blue jeans and black jeans. 99.9% of the time I wear a size 6 and I got these in 6 and they fit great. My foot is neither narrow nor wide and they're great. From the day I put them on they fit well and were comfortable. No blisters or discomfort or issues breaking them in. I'm back on Zappos looking for a pair of Fryes in black. I know now I'll have many more Frye boots in the future.

These boots are only the most awesome boots in the universe! I have them in both red and curry. They run about 1/2 larger. They go with everything from jeans to skirts. Once you have a pair of Frye boots, you will not settle for less. Enjoy these beautiful boots, and be prepared for compliments!

These boots looked very sloppy. There are a couple of problems with them, similar to the problems I found when I tried the other Carmen 14Ls: first, the shaft width around the calf is huge; second, the leather is very soft, causing the boots to fall and scrunch (if that is the look you are going for, okay, but not okay for those of us shopping for a sleeker look); and third, the belt-loop adjustments stick out from the boot and fall. Overall, I would not recommend these boots if you are looking for something sleek and well put together.

Love these boots! I have an extremely hard time finding boots that fit my large calves and my high instep. These worked for me, and the first time I wore them they were extremely comfortable.

These boots are beautiful. Got them in the dark brown and you can wear them with either brown or black clothes. They are true to size. Had to send the first pair back because of a defect and Zappos came to the rescue by sending out a new pair without even charging me. They just said to send the other ones back by 2 weeks. Can you believe that? That is one great customer service that they have and that means everything. You can have great products but when something happens, if you can\'t get good customer service, then you will go somewhere else. Never, ever for Zappos! The leather is well-made. Was worried about the heel as I have a bad back and use a cane. They feel great, you can\'t even really tell there is much of a heel at all. Love the rubber on the bottom to keep from slipping. Well made and excellently beautiful!!!!!!!! Thanks to Zappos!

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Great looking boot. A little narrow even though I wear a 7.5 in Frye. Perfect boots. I ended up ordering a different pair just because I wanted a dark brown and did not have it in the exact shade I wanted. Overall this boot is classy, elegant and stylish. I now own four pairs of Frye boots. I will never buy any other brand.

Great boots! These boots look fantastic and draw lots of compliments. People especially like the semi-distressed look, inspired mainly by the blackish-brownish finish of the leather. I have been wearing the boots mainly with skirts - they are the perfect finishing touch for long skirts. I normally wear a 7.5, but ordered an 8.0 so that I could wear them with socks if need be; the size is perfect. The leather is stiff through the ankles; the first day I wore them, I wore only tights and got blisters on both ankles. I'm now wearing socks with them until they are more broken in.

Best boots ever - I normally wear a 7.5 and I did have to return my 7.5 US for an 8, but once I got the right size - I was in love. I normally wear flats exclusively, and these boots are so comfortable. I run around all day with work, and they are comfortable from day one. And if you work out and have muscular calves, you can wear these boots. I can even tuck my jeans inside!

Love this boot style! I have the Olive style and wear it all the time. Saw the dark brown and wanted that, too, but the dark brown was gone. Was not too thrilled with the brown/black mix of this boot, but wanted to make sure I got this style before they removed it - if they ever do, but the mix of black and brown actually is more versatile than just a dark brown. The boot goes with brown clothes and black clothes (or mix) and looks sharp. This boot is different from my other Frye 14L in that it has more of the rubber grip on the bottom. Last year's version did not have this full rubber grip on the bottom and this has been helpful in NOT slipping. This boot is also a bit different from last year's model in that it is taking quite a long time to break in. I RAN through several airports in this boot and wore it for days on end and it would NOT break in. By the end of my last flight and run through an airport, my feet were killing me and every step hurt. NOW I had two pairs of socks on and that may well have smooshed the feet into the boot instead of forcing the boot leather to expand. The boot bottom just seems stiffer than last year's model, but the trade-off is the rubber bottom that really does help prevent the sliding and skidding. I also tore the heel wrap on an escalator as it is only a wrap. Will have to take it to a shoe repair or try to super glue the torn part myself. All in all, this is a good boot. I LOVE this style and get compliments on it ALL the time. Love how the toe sticks up. Love the straps. Just LOVE this boot style. Have to say this is my very favorite style boot in the 40 years I've been wearing boots! FRYE: DO NOT REMOVE THIS STYLE!!!

My weekend staple! I love these boots. They go with anything. I wear them with skinny jeans and sweaters. Because they zip, someone with a high arch can slip right in.

Such lovely boots! This is the fourth consecutive pair of boots I ordered from Zappos in my hunt for the perfect pair of quality boots. They are so beautiful and really comfortable... similar to a comment below though, if you have wider feet you may want to consider ordering a half size up, or just be patient with the breaking-in process. Also, this is my first time ordering from Zappos... I've never received such excellent customer care online or inside stores!

These are well-made boots, but I didn't like how they looked on my feet. They were much bulkier in person and gave me too much of a Frankenstein look, so I sadly had to return them. Appearance aside, the construction is solid, the sole is quite grippy and offers a lot of traction, the leather is nice, and the Shearling interior is luxurious.

Awesome boots - These boots look fantastic. Great with jeans tucked in or out. Not too cowboy like. Gives skirts a cool look. If you have wider feet, I suggest going up 1/2 a size. I got my regular size so I have to break them in a bit, but they are much better than most of the boots I have. I can be in them and walk around the city (NYC) for hours.

These Boots are made for walking!! Never in my life have I experienced a surprise like this one... They are soooooo comfortable from the first minute and believe me that's all it takes for me, if they don't hurt they never will. My foot is very sensitive to any little thing wrong in a shoe, but not with this one, I'm in Heaven. Thank you God I finally found my glass slipper!!!

Frye Carmen 14L - Ditto to the others who said this is THE perfect boot. I just love everything about these boots. I'm usually hard to fit and harder to please when buying boots. Every woman should have a pair of these in her closet. Mushroom is the perfect brown. Just what I was looking for.

The boots I've been looking for - These boots are amazing. The size is perfect, the comfort is beyond description. I have horrible feet so finding a boot that I can wear day one exceeds any of my expectations. The color, as described by others, is not gray but this is the color I wanted. Goes with everything. The quality is there and I know I will have these for many, many years. Classic design and color that will never go out of style. And Zappos is amazing. I ordered Thursday and received them Friday...can't ask for better than that. Thank you Zappos...I can now donate my other boots to people who can appreciate them. Happy New Year to all at Zappos. You make shopping fun.

Frye Carmen 14L - I love these boots! Beautiful craftsmanship and a great look. They fit great right out of the box and will only become more comfortable with wearing. I have very muscular lower legs and these boots accommodate this with no problem. Versatile with pants or skirts. Well worth the price and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a unique, comfortable boot. Fast shipping with Zappos and excellent customer service.
