Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I thought that these shoes were stunning. On my foot, they made my legs look great! But alas, I have weak ankles and have sprained them several times. The bottom of the heel was too small and my feet wobbled in them. Sadly, I decided that it would be best to return them.

I loved how they look in the photo and when I look in the mirror, wearing them, they are truly charming. But that comment reflects only a static pose. When I walk it is a totally different story; I clomp-clomp-clomp like a working pony. There is no give in the sole; the heel area of the wedge is narrow and offers little support so if your ankles are not strong or if you are worried about twisted or sprained ankles, give this style a pass. I am returning the pair I bought for something a little bit more substantial but less cute. Thank you, Zappos, for offering me this exchange opportunity.

Incredibly comfortable, soft leather, padding in the sole, and very well constructed. I see why the other reviewers gave it such high marks. It's a great shoe.

I purchased the red and didn't notice the bad smell mentioned in previous reviews. Love this shoe! I am new to platforms and really like the lift these give me without the steep pitch of other heels. Very nicely detailed, well-padded footbed and will look cute with dresses, jeans and shorts. Love Frye and really love Zappos!

Love Frye boots, shoes, sandals...everything! These are a classic, comfortable, easy-to-walk-in shoe. I love the leather details; when you buy Frye you know they're well made. Fits true-to-size and very comfortably, due to the minimal height difference from the heel to the front of the foot. I bought the slate color, which is just as it looks online (maybe a tad lighter in person). My only complaint is that when I opened the box the shoes reeked like garlic, or something awful! I assume it's the dye, but when I called customer service, they hadn't had any other complaints with this shoe. I'm airing them out and hoping that will help, otherwise I'll have to send them back. I love the shoes, though, and I would really like to keep them!

I love this shoe. It's exactly what I wanted! Unfortunately, it's a bit too small, and the next size is not available. Breaks my heart!
