My BF bought me these boots as a gift. They are extremely comfortable and I wear them at least 3x a week. I have a high arch and this boot did not bother me. I am a Nine West size 8 or 8.5, a Steve Madden 8.5 and a Jimmy Choo 39. These boots I went up a half size to a 9 and I am glad I did. I wouldn\'t say it was made smaller, just go with your normal size and go up a half step. You will want to wear boot socks or wellie socks with this boot and the ankle (no cankles here, ladies) is snug with an average sock on - but has been stretching out over time. The boot is more caramel-colored then chocolate-colored so if you want a darker boot you may want to look at some of their other styles. This boot is plain, almost like a non-embroidered cowboy boot - but I like it for everyday wear to tuck my jeans into!

These boots have quality written all over them. They are sturdy, made of high grade leather, & comfortable (once you break them in). They are completely worth every cent I paid, they'll be around for a long time. Lovin' Frye boots in the windy city!

Love my boots! They are comfy and go with everything. The only thing I suggest is if you have a high instep or a wider foot go up half a size, the boot runs small.

Love these boots! I am an 8 & I bought both the 7 1/2 and 8. I stuck with the 8 so that I can wear socks with them. I love the heel on these boots and have worn them with jeans and skirts. I imagine having them for a long time because they are very well made.

I ordered these in a 7 following the reviews to go a half size smaller. I wore them around the house and they were very uncomfortable in the toe area. I decided to try my normal shoe size 8. The fit is much better, but I needed a thin insole to help with heel slipping. I love these boots and am happy with my purchase. As always, Zappos rocks.

Additional Brand Information

The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye is the oldest continuously operating shoe company in the United States. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Best boots ever! I have had my Frye boots for a couple of years now and couldn't be happier. I know I'll have them for years to come. The quality is superb, the style is timeless, and they are very comfortable. I have been a 7.5 most of my life, but after children I seem to be an 8 in lots of shoes. I wavered on what to order, but I ended up with the 7.5 and they are perfect. I don't wear thick socks, just thin boot socks and they are perfect this way. Great with skirts, jeans, bootcut and skinny tucked in. I have the dark brown, but can't keep my eye off the blazer brown and the burnt red. Someday I'll own all three!

I bought the Frye Campus 14L about a month ago and I love them! They are very well made, the leather is gorgeous, and the heel is the perfect height for walking without compromising the look. So far I've worn them with jeans, skirts, and leggings and they have gotten a lot of compliments. The Frye Campus 14L are so cool that I am currently considering buying another pair in black (the ones I got are dark brown). Please be aware that they run at least a half size large. First I got size 8 (all my other boots are size 8), but my foot felt incredibly loose; then I got 7.5 and they would have been okay with insoles and thicker socks. I finally got size 7 and they are perfect. I can wear them with regular cotton socks or thicker ones and my toes would still be comfortable. As long as you get the right size, you will love them!

What can I say? I'm finally the proud owner of a pair of Frye boots. The quality is unparalleled in this price range. I have semi-largish calves and I can still tuck jeans inside. They pair well with skirts or pants and are very comfortable. They're a little stiff at first (not uncomfortable, just you can tell they will break in over time to form to your feet), but I would recommend these to anyone.

I didn’t trust the reviewers who said order a size down - and I should have! I always wear an 8-8.5 and on my second order finally ended up in a 7.5 in these boots. The fit initially was odd - very loose in the heel area and super tight in the toes. Thick socks, thin socks, tights, I tried it all to make these babies work and still ended up having to take them to the boot man to have the toe area stretched (cost $8). Again I always run true to size and if anything, ends up going UP in size, but with these boots I went DOWN. I have a narrow foot and have never encountered shoes that are too small in the toe area. Still breaking them in with duct tape on the heels on days I know I’ll be walking a lot, but my goodness do they look nice! I don’t usually suffer for fashion, but I know once these beauties are broken in I’ll have them forever! Love Zappos for their wonderful customer service!

Happy! I originally ordered the Jane stitch boot and just didn't think they looked good on me. A little too cowboyish and dressy for my style. Not only that, but I'm too curvy and short for their height on my legs (5 foot 6, 150 lbs). I called and talked to a wonderful lady at Zappos who took my exchange and had my Campus 14Ls at my house 24 hours later! A nice end to a long day at work. Love them! They are funky in a simple utility way and they hit my leg right where the curve in my calf is. I noticed that the Jane boots were a bit large on me, so I opted for a 1/2 size down from my normal size with the Campus. Perfect. I need skinny jeans and leggings now! They look cool under my straight legs though and would be super cute with skirts! (As I said, they hit the curve in my leg just right!) Hope this helps someone! Breaking in will be painful, but who cares? There's just something about a boot that breaks just to fit you. An investment worth making!

I'm only on my second wearing of the dark brown Campus 14L Fryes, but I feel proud to be a member of the Frye club. They are top freakin' quality! You can dress them up or down, they go with everything and are appropriate in almost any setting I can think of. They are comfortable and feel so good going on. This is by far the best quality boot I have ever owned, and I look forward to 20 years or more together.

Awesome basic Fall/Winter boot! So comfortable, a typical Frye fit. Goes well with jeans, cords, leggings and skirts. Key for those cold-weather places: the base keeps your feet really warm compared to other boots. No more cold feet when you are standing in snow!

I have had these boots for at least 20 years. Had them resoled and even dyed them black (original color was saddle brown). I cannot tell you how comfortable they are and how much I love them. You can't go wrong with Fryes.

I have been looking at these boots for couple of years and finally got it in black. They are as I expected (not a delicate boot), but amazingly well made. I did change my mind though and decided I wanted to order it in Saddle color, so I have a order in and am waiting to receive. I know I will be wearing either the black or the saddle for many years. I wish I could keep both. Very comfortable. I am sure like their other boots, the more I wear it the more comfortable it will get.

The item is even better looking in real life, it's very trendy and comfortable, and the sizing is just right. Calf size could have been a tiny bit bigger though but hopefully the leather will accommodate once I have worn them several times.

First, I must say that Zappos was extremely fast in shipping these boots as I received them in 2 days. As for the boots, I don't agree that they run a 1/2 size large. I usually wear a size 8 for a shoe that I do not wear socks with (sandals, heels) and a size 8 1/2 for shoes that require socks (tennis shoes, boots). I first tried a size 8 because of the previous reviews and they were so tight on my toes that I had to return them for a size 8 1/2 which fit perfectly on my foot. The problem was the ankle of the boot rubbed when I walked and made my ankle sore even when I was wearing socks. I could not justify spending this much on a pair of boots that might not break in and stop rubbing my ankle. So although these are really cute casual boots, I will be returning them.

Not knee-high. These would be the perfect boots if they came a couple more inches up the calf. I'm 5'7" and they hit me at an unflattering part of my calf just above midcalf. I like to wear boots with skirts and dresses, and I want them to come up to my knee, and these don't come close. The calves were also very tight, barely enough room for tights, and I've never really had a calf problem in boots before. I'm so sad to send them back because they're beautiful, but too expensive not to be perfect!

I have wanted these boots since high school in the 1970s. I finally decided to indulge myself yesterday afternoon when I saw the Blazer Brown and I had them on my feet this evening (yay, Zappos!). They are absolutely wonderful, everything I thought they'd be! I will wear skinny jeans tucked into them all winter long. If it weren't 95F out right now I'd wear them to work tomorrow! The red ones are next on my list. I'm glad I read the other reviews, I normally wear a 9.5 to 10 and the size 9 fit me perfectly. They are still a bit loose, but when I tried them with a thicker sock than what I normally wear they were very comfy.

I love these boots. They do fit a little bigger than standard and I probably could have gone down 1/2 size, but I plan on wearing them with cushy comfortable socks so they will be perfect. It is too hot to wear them yet, this fall I know they will be a staple in my wardrobe. Zappos has the best customer service. I never hesitate ordering any shoes or boots from them. I just ordered another pair and expect to get them today!
